Warren County patient update

The first confirmed COVID-19 patient in Warren County is not in Warren County.

Warren General Hospital CEO Rick Allen announced Wednesday that the first case had been confirmed in the county.

That patient is a Warren County resident whose sample was taken in Warren County.

However, the patient is not in Warren County now, according to Warren General Hospital Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer Joe Akif. The patient is under care outside the county.

No further details were released.

“All parties who have been in contact have been informed and appropriate next steps have been taken,” Allen said Wednesday.

The hospital had about 200 COVID-19 test kits remaining on Thursday, according to Akif. Warren General has placed its order for about 1,000 more.

Hospital personnel are not testing everyone who presents with a fever, nor even with an order from a physician.

“COVID-19 tests continue to be in very limited supply,” Allen said Wednesday. “Only those with severe symptoms will be tested for COVID-19.”
