School board meeting on Monday open to public, just not physically

While the schools themselves are quiet, the business of Warren County School District moves on.

The school board will hold a special board meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, March 30. That time and date was originally set aside for committee meetings. The committee meetings have been canceled.

The special meeting is open to the public, but not physically.

“Due to Governor Wolf’s mandated school closing and to best ensure the health, welfare, and safety of board members, district employees, and the public, the Warren County School District Board of School Directors will hold a special meeting conducted via teleconference for the purpose of acting on policy and any other items that may come before the board,” according to a notice from the district. “The public may join the meeting via computer at https://wcsdpa.zoom.us/j/158674157 or via phone by dialing 1-253-215-8782. If prompted to enter an ID number, use 158 674 157 and follow the instructions.”

The meeting agenda will be available on the district’s website — www.wcsdpa.org– under the Board Docs button.

“To ensure that all participating members of the public are aware of all motions and afforded the opportunity for public comment, each motion will be read aloud, and there will be an opportunity for public comment before the vote on each motion,” according to the notice.

Superintendent Amy Stewart said that the board will discuss possible changes to the school calendar in response to the COVID-19 state-wide schools closure.

The board may decide to extend the school year in the interest of education, but the state says that is not required.

“Given the extensive period of closure, schools are not required to adjust calendars,” according to the Pennsylvania Department of Education. “However, schools will be required to report their total days and hours for the 2019-20 school year on a simplified form. Completed forms will be deemed approved.”
