County to shut down all ‘non-essential’ services

Warren County has shut down all non-essential operations through March 30 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The county’s move announced Wednesday night goes further than measures taken by the City of Warren, which elected to keep all departments staffed and operating but restrict public access to city buildings.

According to the statement from the county, “all nonessential operations of the county government will be put on hold and the majority of county workers will be on leave or working from home, with some directors and essential personnel still working.”

The operational restriction will run from Thursday until Monday, March 30.

The following departments “will be closed,” per the county’s statement: Tax Claim, Elections, Veterans Affairs, Planning and Zoning, Treasurer, Finance & Human Resources and Assessment.

Further, the Register and Recorder’s office will be closed except for deed transfers which must be made via appointment.

The Warren County Jail and 911 Center remain open.

Human Services and the operations of the county’s court system have also been restricted.

Per the release, Forest/Warren Human Services and county Children and Youth will close “all nonessential functions.”

“Most employees will be working remotely to ensure the health and safety of families,” according to the county. “The main office number will continue to be answered during normal business hours.”

Additionally, President Judge Maureen Skerda issued a “Declaration of Judicial Emergency” which is effective from March 19 through April 14.

“All Court operations are limited to essential functions only at this time and all Court offices will be open for urgent business only,” according to the statement. “Any necessary business should be sent by mail, fax or email to respective offices.”

Court related offices, including the Prothonotary, Clerk of Courts, Courts, Magisterial District Courts, Domestic Relations, Adult Probation, and Juvenile Probation will remain open, according to the county’s statement.
