Titusville man faces false identity charge

A man who gave a false name when pulled over by police faces numerous charges.

Daniel S. Deitz, 36, of Titusville, is charged with felony identity theft;12 misdemeanors including possession of a controlled substance; possession of a small amount of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; three counts of DUI; forgery; altering title, registration, or insurance; and false identification to law enforcement; and numerous traffic-related summary offenses.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Pennsylvania State Police conducted a traffic stop on Route 6 in Starbrick after the vehicle was allegedly observed crossing the white line three times.

The driver of the vehicle identified himself to police as Michael Wakefield, according to the affidavit, but he was later found to be Deitz.

Police asked the passenger in the vehicle about a glass jar visible on the floor, according to the affidavit. The passenger handed police the glass jar containing a “white, rock-like substance” believed to be methamphetamine. That substance tested positive for amphetamines, according to police.

When told the law enforcement K-9 unit was on the way, Deitz allegedly told police there was another glass jar containing marijuana in the vehicle, according to the affidavit. K-9 Dina of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle turned up numerous drug-related items, according to the affidavit.

“Throughout the course of the investigation, Deitz identified himself verbally and by signature as Michael Wakefield, even after being informed that he was being arrested,” police said in the affidavit.

Deitz’s blood tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, and marijuana.
