PennDOT to talk Sheffield bridge
Those 2,000 or so motorists who travel Route 6 east of Sheffield each day are looking at a week of a 37-mile detour.
PennDOT will hold a public meeting to discuss the project to replace the bridge over Roystone Run in Sheffield Township.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at the Sheffield Ecumenical Food Pantry at 18 Leather Street.
“The existing bridge was built in 1925 and is classified as poor condition. Approximately 2,220 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average,” according to a release from PennDOT District Press Officer Jill Harry. “Construction will require a 37-mile detour for seven days. The detour will be posted using Route 666, Route 948, and Route 66.”
The project will replace the “concrete arch bridge with a reinforced concrete box culvert,” according to Harry. “Work is expected to occur in mid-August 2020 and take seven days to complete.”
The information that will be presented at the meeting — and other meetings — is available by visiting the Public Meetings and Studies tab at the District 1 section at penndot.gov.
“The plans display is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project’s potential effect” on cultural resources, Harry said.
