A structure fire early Wednesday morning left a newly sold Chapman Dam Rd. property as a “total loss.”

At 12:30 a.m., Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department received a call for a structure fire at 3973 Chapman Dam Rd., Clarendon. The call was made by a passerby of the structure.

The home had recently been sold, however remained unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire fully involved. It took approximately one hour to knock down the flames and firefighters were on scene for a total of four and a half hours.

Once flames were extinguished, the home was on the ground and considered a total loss. The newly sold home was insured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by State Police Fire Marshals.

Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department, Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department and Glade Volunteer Fire Department assisted on scene.
