Sex offender pleads guilty to registration status infraction

A convicted sexual offender has pled guilty to a violation of registration requirements.

Tyler M. Engle, Pittsfield, entered the plea to a felony count of provide accurate information and a summary count of driving while under suspension before Judge Gregory Hammond on Thursday.

In exchange for the plea, the following charges were not prosecuted: Failure to comply with registration of sexual offender requirements, possession of drug paraphernalia and unauthorized use of automobiles and other vehicles.

Youngsville Police told the Times Observer in October that Engle “was picked up by Youngsville Borough Police…at (a) community recreational park sitting in a motor vehicle.”

Police said that Engle was “in possession of several hypodermic (needles), marijuana pipe and other drug paraphernalia.”

Police also said that he was wanted by federal probation authorities out of Erie.

He is listed on the Megan’s Law website as a Tier I offender – which requires a 10-year registration period. That period commenced on May 26, 2016.

That stems from a plea that he made in federal court back in 2016.

The Times Observer previously reported that Engle was sentenced to 35 months in federal prison in May 2016.

He had initially been charged in Warren County court with numerous child pornography counts but those charges were dropped when the case was turned over to the federal government.

Federal officials alleged that Engle “possessed computer images depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.”

In the county court charges, police alleged that cameras containing 57 images were turned in to police and analyzed while Engle admitted to police that the cameras were his.
