Local Hampton Inn taxes reassessed

Property owners who feel their property taxes are out of line may file for an appeal.

The Warren County Board of Assessment Appeals hears those appeals.

Typically, but not always, the applicant explains to the board members why the assessment is too high.

In October, the board heard an appeal for the Hampton Inn & Suites in North Warren.

That appeal, according to Warren County Chief Assessor Brian Bull, was not filed by the property owner.

Instead, it was the taxing bodies — Conewango Township and Warren County School District — that appealed the assessment. The taxing bodies argued that the assessment was too low.

And they won.

The assessed value shown for the hotel from 2016 through 2019 on the Warren County assessment office’s assessment database was $1,415,880.

The new assessment for 2020 is $1,742,000, Bull said.
