Corry based State Police ID Crawford Cty remains

Corry-based Pennsylvania State Police have identified human remains found in Crawford County back in September.

And the deceased has been identified as William John Ward, 36, Seneca.

On September 29, police reported that a hunter found human remains off of Steadman Road in Troy Township.

At that time, the Crawford County Coroner’s Office was investigating with police and Mercyhurst University’s Forensic Anthropology Department assisted at the scene.

On Tuesday, police said that the remains were analyzed by NMS labs with results indicating Ward’s identity.

“The remains,” police said, “were compared to a DNA sample collected from a parent of William Ward and were shown to be a match.”

Police say Ward went missing in 2017 “and was last seen in the area of Steadman Road… while reportedly going hiking.”

The investigation remains active but police said “there is no indication of foul play.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (814) 663-2043.
