2020-21 school calender finalized

The Warren County School District has finalized the school calendar for next year.

The school board unanimously approved the 2020-2021 calendar during Monday night’s meeting.

School is set to start next fall on Tuesday, Sept. 1, and wrap up on Friday, June 11, 2021.

Students will be off in September for Labor Day, October for Columbus Day, Wednesday through Monday around Thanksgiving, and from Dec. 23 until Jan. 4 for Christmas break.

The two days before Veterans Day — November 9 and 10 — will also be out of session for parent/teacher conferences and a professional development day, respectively.

In 2021, students will be off for Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 18 as well as Jan. 25, both of which are professional development days for staff. Students will also be off on Feb. 15 for President’s Day, which will also be a professional development day for staff.

An additional professional development day is set for March 8 and school will be closed on on Friday, April 2, for Good Friday, and Monday, May 31, for Memorial Day.

Energy days are built into the school year to provide flexibility in the event that school days are canceled due to weather – snow days – or other emergencies. When there is a snow day, an energy day turns into a day students will attend.

Those days in the 2021 calendar — in the order in which they will be utilized in the event of closures — include Feb. 12, Mar. 15, May 28, April 6, and April 5.

The 2020-2021 school year marks a significant change in the district — the first year that students who turn five after July 1 are not eligible to enroll in kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year.
