Students throughout Warren and Forest counties have painted plows.

Now those submissions are out for a public vote.

PennDOT’s “Paint the Plow” program is a statewide outreach initiative “aimed at promoting winter driving safety and fostering appreciation for high school art programs and student creativity.”

Students at each public high school in Warren County were tasked with painting a plow blade based on the statewide theme of “Don’t Rush in Ice and Slush.”

“The theme was chosen to draw attention to the need for motorists to give themselves ample time for travel during wintry weather in order to arrive safely to their destination,” a PennDOT statement said.

Submissions were received from Warren Area High School, Eisenhower High School, Sheffield High School, Youngsville High School, Tidioute Community Charter School as well as East Forest High School in Marienville and West Forest High School in Tionesta.

“A new voting format has been introduced for the 2019 ‘Paint the Plow’ program,” PennDOT said. “Members of the public can vote for their favorite plow through the PennDOT website at www.penndot.gov/District1 by clicking on the ‘Paint the Plow’ icon. Voters will be taken to a survey site where they can pick their favorite plow.”

PennDOT said voting will be open from Monday through Nov. 25, with the winner to be deemed “Fan Favorite.”

PennDOT added that the photos will be posted on the PennDOT Facebook page but note that responses on social media will not count toward vote totals.

“During the winter weather season, the blades will be used to maintain area roadways,” PennDOT said. “Along with the ‘Fan Favorite’ award, the blades are also eligible for the ‘Judges’ Pick’ honor that will be determined by PennDOT personnel.”
