The City of Warren Street Landscape Committee presented a slate of Civic Beautification Awards on Tuesday.

Three residences, a business and a non-profit around the city received certificates and will be denoted by signage in the coming days.

Members of the committee, Chairman Josie Gerardi explained, “go look around” the city and “bring in nominees” that the committee then debates.

“(We) basically do it to encourage people to maintain their property,” she said, speaking of the importance of curb appeal.

“One thing exemplified in all five of these,” she explained, is that beautification “doesn’t require a lot of money” and highlights the importance of effectively maintaining what one has.

The committee divided the city into thirds – by tax and voting district – and presented an award to each of the three sections, a business and a non-profit organization.

The residential winners were Richard and Donna Risinger, 224 Main Ave., Matthew Robinson and Shaun Gupta, 20 4th Ave. and Kevin and Emily Bennett, 208 Madison Ave.

The award for a business was presented to Market St. Dental while the on-profit recognized was the Crary Home.
