Art Club exhibits youthful inspiration

Times Observer photo by Brian Ferry The work of YMCA Art Club student Bella, based on the work of sculptor Louise Nevelson, who made art out of pieces of scrap wood she found discarded on the streets of New York, is on display in the Warren Public Library’s Wetmore Gallery.

A group of young artists have their works on display in the library.

The YMCA Art Club has a show hanging in the Wetmore Gallery at Warren Public Library through the end of October.

The club meets once a week for five weeks, an hour at a time. “They work on pieces while sharing the creative experiences with peers,” YMCA Marketing and Grant Coordinator Kim Slocum, who teaches the class, said. “I hope people really take time to enjoy what the kids have done.”

Slocum asked the students about their artistic interests, then paired them up with famous artists. The students were inspired by artists from Kandinsky to Da Vinci, Nevelson to Banksy and were asked some questions about their work and their inspiration’s.

Next to each piece is a photo of the student at work and the answers to the questions.
