Charges for Pittsfield man

A Pittsfield man faces a strangulation charge following a reported domestic altercation Thursday, Oct. 24.

Thomas V. Christeson, 34, of Pittsfield, is charged with strangulation, simple assault, and harassment.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Christeson allegedly grabbed the female victim around “her whole body and squeezed her very hard.”

She told police Christeson let her go and walked away, at which time she “grabbed an ash tray and broke it on the counter.”

As she was sweeping up, Christeson came back toward her, according to the affidavit.

“She attempted to push him away with the broom. He became more frustrated and got nose to nose with her before grabbing her around her neck with both hands and squeezing,” according to the affidavit. She “related that lasted for what she believed to be one minute before letting go” and that “she did not breathe for the entire minute.”

Police said the victim took pictures of red marks on her neck that were a result of the alleged attack.

According to the affidavit, Christeson told police there was a verbal argument and “nothing physical had happened.”

Christeson was arraigned Thursday before District Justice Todd Woodin.

He was taken to Warren County jail after failing to post $25,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30.
