Census Bureau seeks to fill thousands of jobs

With the 10-year census just around the corner, the U.S. Census Bureau is looking for help.

“We are at the height of our hiring,” Media Specialist Susan Licate said. “In Northern Pennsylvania and across the country, we have thousands of jobs to fill.”

To apply, a person must be at least 18 years of age, be a U.S. citizen, and have reliable transportation.

“We are beginning to accept applications for the next wave,” Licate said. “Weekly pay, paid training, part-time, starting at $16 an hour. All equipment is provided and mileage is reimbursed.”

Applications are handled through the website — 2020census.gov/jobs.

“What’s really neat about that, the candidate puts their application in and the system considers them for a number of positions,” Licate said.

“We want local people in local jobs,” she said. “We want them to know the neighborhood in which their working.”

“It’s great work,” she said. “It’s meaningful work.”

Local employees help ensure a complete and accurate count, she said. And that means “the right amount of federal funds are flowing back into our communities because we got a really good count.”

Partners

In addition to employees, the bureau is looking for community partners.

“We need community involvement,” Licate said. “If businesses or organizations are interested in being a partner to help share the message, there are many ways to become involved.”

“Folks can reach out to Partnership Specialist Sean Silman if they want more information on how to be a partner,” she said.

Silman’s email is sean.w.silman@2020census.gov.
