Briefs…

Photo submitted to Times Observer Neighbors Helping Neighbors: For over 30 years, the residents of Leslie Blvd. in Glade Manor have been celebrating the end of summer with a Block Party. This year, we had 13 families join in the fun. Each attending family chips in to help offset the cost. This year we chose to donate the surplus funds to Hooktown Holidays. Presenting the check to Terry Pearson, founder of Hooktown Holidays, are this year’s chairpersons, Stephanie and Bo Freitag, Pam and Greg Lyle, and Debbie Olson. Absent from photo is Gary Olson.

Philomel Club

This month the Philomel Club of Warren celebrates its 128th season of classical music performances. All members and those interested in the club are in invited to attend the opening performance on September 11, 2019, at 1:30 at the Woman’s Club of Warren.

The season opens with the President’s Choice selection of performers. In keeping with tradition, we will not divulge the names of the President’s choice, but we can say the club will enjoy vocal performances by three artists delivering Opera, Classical, and Broadway selections.

For those interested in joining, please attend this first meeting on September 11th to listen to the performers and meet the club members. Philomel Club meets monthly from September to May. The club enjoys a musical performance, a brief club meeting (usually 5 minutes), and delectable treats served with coffee and tea. You do not have to perform, you just simply have to enjoy music.

Philomel Club is a tax-exempt charitable organization that supports music education. Each year it provides numerous scholarships to youth, college students, and adults studying music. If you would like to support music education, consider donating to the Philomel Scholarship Fund.
