Only a drill

Eisenhower active shooter drill Tuesday

On Tuesday, alarms will sound. Police will run, guns drawn, into the building. Fire and EMS personnel will triage the injured. Ambulances will transport patients to Warren General Hospital.

But, it’s all a drill.

Between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday, Warren County School District will host multi-agency active intruder drills at Eisenhower Elementary School and Eisenhower Middle/High School.

“The drill will focus on the responses necessary for law enforcement and other community entities that would be on-site in the event of an active intruder or mass casualty incident,” Coordinator of Grants and Foundation Development Matt Jones said. “Anyone in the area of the school during the drill will see a large number of emergency vehicles in the area and may hear gunfire resulting from the use of simulated ammunition by law enforcement. Please do not be alarmed — these are all parts of the drill designed to mimic real-life situations that may be encountered.”

The district will also practice its unification plan — removing students from the site of an active incident and getting them back together with their families.

The schools will be closed on the day of the drill. Anyone with business to conduct with the schools may contact the district office at 723-6900.

Anyone with questions about the drills may contact the Buildings and Grounds office at 723-6900 ext. 1117.

“Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and understanding as we work with our community partners to better safeguard our students,” Jones said.

The district’s call blast system will be utilized in the northern attendance area.
