Indiana Co. man sent to state prison for assault

Ryan Lowman

An Indiana County man will spend years in state prison for a December assault in Pleasant Township.

Ryan M. Lowman, 29, of Cherry Tree, was sentenced Friday to 60 to 120 months in a state correctional institution with credit for 170 days served, a $500 fine, $625 in fees, and no contact with the victim for aggravated assault.

In an agreement, Lowman entered the plea of guilty, and charges including rape — forcible compulsion; rape — threat of forcible compulsion; sexual assault; aggravated indecent assault — without consent; aggravated indecent assault; and two counts of indecent assault; were not prosecuted.

At the plea, Hammond said Lowman used his size — approximately 390 pounds — to stop the victim from breathing.

“You’ve had a profound and long-lasting impact on your victim,” Hammond said. “This victim and the community need protection from you.”

Hammond said Lowman is not to be paroled until he completes sexual offender treatment. “While this, technically, is not a sexual offense,” prior charges and history justify the addition to the sentence, he said.
