Youngsville’s concert series begins tonight
Today’s weather forecast calls for a high of 80 degrees, partly cloudy skies and music in the air. Well, at least in Youngsville.
Tonight marks the third July performance of the Island Park Music Summer Concert series. The free concert starts at 6 p.m. at the park on Island Park Road in Youngsville. Tonight’s performer is Juli Bessey.
She will perform a wide variety of tunes on acoustic guitar. Those who attend will hear everything from blues, country, 60’s, 70’s to today, according to Bessey. “There will be songs you’ll recognize but don’t hear all the time,” she said.
Bessey also performs with the Porcelain Busdrivers, sings and plays rhythm guitar with Flossie and the Gunslingers and plays solo and duo shows.
Youngsville Mayor Scott Nelson said the park is the perfect venue for people to come out and support local talent. “There’s lots of room,” he said. “There’s a playground for the kids and folks can have a picnic.”
The concerts have been taking place in Youngsville for about five years, according to Nelson. They are currently sponsored by the borough and Nelson Funeral Home, but additional sponsorship is welcome.
“We’re always looking for sponsors,” he said. “It would help us bring in more acts.”
Two more concerts are currently scheduled for Thursdays in August with two dates still open, according to Nelson.
