The veterans memorial in Sugar Grove is back in place.
That work is a result of an incident in May in which a car was driven off of Main Street, over the curb, through the grass, and into the previous monument.
Roger Luvison and Son of Youngsville began laying stone and block for the new monument on June 6, the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
Wes Wilcox, who represented Sugar Grove American Legion Post #758 at the site as the memorial plaque was reinstalled on Friday, said the crash created a good opportunity to redesign the monument.

“I designed the first one,” Wilcox said. “This wall belongs to the American Legion. With the cooperation of the Borough of Sugar Grove, we’re getting this monument rebuilt.”

“This is going to look real nice when it’s all done,” he said. “Nothing but compliments all the way around.”
Flower boxes that were part of the previous monument were not reinstalled. Markers and the original plaque placed in 1995 are all that remains of the original memorial.
The final step in the rebuilding process will be the installation of a 1,000-pound granite slab.
Luvison said he expects the work to wrap up this week.
