Chapman work affects reservations

Culvert replacement and road paving – some of the final steps in the renovation project of the dam – will snarl reservations at Chapman State Park.

A post on the Park’s Facebook page said that the work has “begun and will cause road closures, travel delays and detours throughout the park.”

As a result, “reservations made prior to (June 14) will be honored. Others seeking to utilize our campground or pavilions may be permitted day-of on a case-by-case basis and only after users are fully aware of the delays and inconveniences they will encounter.”

The hope had been to have the project completed by Memorial Day but the Park posted that the lake “is still drawn down and contractors will complete required repairs once drier weather allows, thus allowing the lake to refill and use to resume.”

When that will be accomplished is not yet clear.

“We are doing everything we can to keep access unrestricted for registered campers,” the Park posted. “At some point, paving will occur in front of each site… We are being told that once the mooring road is paved, the campground and main park roads will be next, starting from the campground working northward (outbound). We will be posting detours via the ADA access road in the day use area as necessary.”

“We are also told that when the contractors are done for the day or week, the roadways will be left in such a way that traffic will be able to pass without issue.”
