WAHS Spring Pops concert plays some oldies & goodies

The Warren Area High School presented their Spring Pops Concert on Thursday, May 23 featuring songs from pop music and broadway.

The show featured the Divas, the Concert Choir, Madrigals and A Cappella with approximately 60 kids performing in total.

The group had been preparing for Thursday evening for around 3 months, following their last concert in March.

“I’ve been doing this for a gazillion years,” stated choral director Robert Pearce. Pearce has been teaching as a choral director for 32 years, starting his career in 1987.

Soloists performed a song of their choosing while Pearce chose the ensembles’ music.

Soloists include: Marylin Shene (‘Someone Like You’ by Adele Atkins and Dan Wilson); Rylee Napolitan (‘Garden State’ by Bob Marley); Kaitlyn McCracken (‘You Say’ by Lauren Daigle); Tyler Blackburn (‘Love Runs Out’ by Tedder, Kutzle, Filkins, Fisher and Brown); Hanna Hoffman and Maddy Robbins (‘Super Friends’ by Bloom and Root, Neely, arr.) and Savnnah Keenr (‘My Funny Valentine’ by Richard Rodgers).

The Divas performed: ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’ (Marrill & Styne, Stommen, arr.); ‘Jar of Hearts’ (Lawrence, Perri, and Yeretsian); ‘High Hopes’ (Panic! at the Disco, Beck, arr.); and King of Anything’ (Sara Bareilles, Brymer, arr.).

The Concert Choir performed: ‘Glorious’ (Stephanie Mabey, Fettke, arr.); ‘Sh-Boom’ (Keyes, Feaster, McRae & Edward); ‘You’re My Best Friend’ (John Deacon, Langford, arr.); ‘Perfect’ (Ed Sheeran, Snyder, arr.); and ‘Everything’ (Michael Buble, Emerson, arr.).

Madrigals performed: ‘Tell Your Heart to Beat Again’ (Phillips, West & Herms, Emerson, arr.); ‘Count on Me’ (Lawrence, Levine & Bruno Mars, Beck, arr.); and ‘When I Think About Angels” (Dean, Tillis, & O’Neal, Sharpe, arr.).

A Cappella performed: ‘I Feel the Earth Move’ (Carol King, Lawson, arr.); ‘That Lonesome Road’ (James Taylor & Don Grolnick, Shaw, arr.); ‘From Now On’ (Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, Emerson, arr.; and ‘Brighter Than the Sun’ (Caillat & Tedder, Billingsley, arr.).

The Senior Song, chosen by the seniors themselves, was 100 Years (John Ondrasik, James, arr.).

Seniors performing were Britney Fedorchick, Savnnah Keener, Tyler Blackburn, Bryce Jache, Marcus Bonavita, and Rylee Napolitan.

A special thanks was given to Kenny Lasecki for accompanying the ensembles on the drum set.

Pearce also conducts a holiday concert during the holiday season and another focused more on the arts such as music by Mozart.
