Tidioute again seeks to fill police vacancy

Tidioute Mayor Pam McLaughlin has confirmed that council is seeking a new borough police chief.

This comes only three months after borough council hired Chelsea Ishman for the position.

“She was a probationary employee and we parted ways,” said McLaughlin. “With the dismissal of Officer Ishman, Tidioute Police Department is looking to fill a vacancy.”

Ishman was hired in September, less than a year after graduating from the police academy at Mercyhurst University. She succeeded Jarrod Deeter as the department’s lone police officer.

Upon Ishman’s hiring, the mayor had said the primary responsibility of the position — as far as she was concerned — was school safety.

“We have a lot of beautiful little children in this town,” McLaughlin said.

McLaughlin did not give a reason for the decision to part ways, other than to say, “it just didn’t work out.”

“I’m grateful for the opportunity with the Tidioute Borough, and the people of Tidioute,” said Ishman. “However, I’m very excited to move on to my new job and next chapter in life.”
