Beach open again

Kinzua Beach is open for swimming.

A day after the Allegheny National Forest announced that the swimming area was closed due to the presence of E. coli in the water, tests determined the water is safe.

“The Forest was notified today by the Department of Health that additional subsequent testing shows levels have returned to an acceptable level and the beach has been reopened,” according to a Friday release.

“E. coli is a bacterium that comes from human or animal waste (such as Canada geese) and frequently occurs after periods of heavy rain when swimming areas are more likely to be flooded by runoff,” according to the release.
