Murder trial underway
Colorado man accused of killing and dismembering Clarendon native
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — The murder trial has begun for a man accused of killing and dismembering his ex-girlfriend, a 2010 graduate of Sheffield High School.
The Boulder Daily Camera reports that attorneys made their opening statements last week to a jury of 16 people in the case of 33-year-old Adam Densmore, who is charged with first-degree murder, tampering with a corpse, abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence in the death of Boulder resident Ashley Mead.
Densmore has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Mead, a native of Clarendon, was last seen February 2017 and reported missing two days later along with her 1-year-old daughter, Winter Daisy Mead, with Densmore. Densmore and the child were found in Oklahoma. Mead’s torso was later found in a suitcase in Oklahoma.
No other remains have been found. As a result, a coroner was never able to determine a cause of death.
Prosecutors believe Mead was killed in Boulder and dismembered at Densmore’s parents’ house in Louisiana. Family members and friends of both parties have been called to testify early in the trial.
Mead and Densmore were reportedly living together and shared custody of the child but were not dating at the time of her death. Prosecutors allege that Densmore had become paranoid Mead was planning to take their baby away.
The trial is expected to last three weeks.
