Spring Creek Township bridge will not be replaced
Cemetery Road Bridge, Spring Creek Township
A Warren County bridge closed to traffic for the last five years will not be replaced.
PennDOT will hold a public meeting to hear input regarding the Cemetery Road Bridge over Brokenstraw Creek in Spring Creek Township.
A PennDOT needs study “determined that Cemetery Road Bridge does not have a sufficient documented need to warrant using state or federal funds to rehabilitate or replace it,” according to District 1 Press Officer Jim Carroll. “PennDOT will now focus on mitigation efforts for the anticipated loss of the historically significant structure.”
The 103-foot long steel truss bridge was built around 1889, according to Carroll. It was closed to traffic in 2012 “after inspectors determined that deterioration reached the point where the structure was no longer safe.”
Prior to that, the bridge was used by an average of 130 vehicles per day and was posted with a three-ton weight limit.
The meeting will be held in conjunction with a meeting of the Spring Creek Township supervisors at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Spring Creek Township Municipal Building, 3811 Old Route 77.
Those who would like more information, or require special assistance to attend or participate in the meeting are asked to contact Design Services Engineer Tom McClelland at (814) 678-7081.
