Motor vehicle accident claims two lives in Pittsfield Township

Two people were killed and a third is in critical condition following a motor vehicle accident involving a Subaru Forester and an Advanced Disposal truck at 10:23 a.m. Thursday in Pittsfield Township.

A crash in Pittsfield Township claimed two lives on Thursday.

According to a release from Pennsylvania State Police, a 2009 Subaru Forester was traveling west on Old Pittsfield Road before crossing over Route 27 to Route 6.

As the vehicle crossed onto Route 6, the driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was struck by a garbage truck that had been traveling east.

Helicopters were called for transport and Warren County Coroner Jerry Borden confirmed Thursday afternoon that the accident was fatal, and that two occupants of the SUV — a 71-year-old female and an 80-year-old female, both of Warren — had died as a result.

The release states that a 52-year-old female seated in the rear of the SUV was flown by Life Flight to Hamot Medical Center in Erie and is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the garbage truck was not injured.

All parties were reported to have been wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Traffic on Route 6 was shut down for approximately three hours following the accident.

Police had not released names of the victims as of Thursday night.

Garland Volunteer Fire Department, EmergyCare Ambulance, Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department and Life Flight assisted at the scene.
