Officer-involved fatal shooting

A man was killed Friday evening in Mead Township in an officer-involved shooting.

“There was an officer-involved shooting which occurred following a traffic stop at Dairy Delite,” Warren County District attorney Rob Greene said Friday night. “The suspect was shot and killed after pulling a firearm on the officer.”

Police did not identify the man who was killed, nor where he was from, but said he was 54 years old.

Erie-based Pennsylvania State Police were called to investigate.

According to Erie-based Pennsylvania State Police, a City of Warren Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at the Dairy Delite parking lot at the intersection of Routes 6 and 59 at 7:30 p.m.

“During the stop, the operator exited the vehicle with the weapon, resulting in shots being fired,” police said. “The suspect died from wounds at the scene.”

The identify of the man who was killed was not released “pending notifications,” according to police.

The identity of the officer was not released.

There were numerous people nearby at the time of the incident, police said. “No innocent bystanders were injured at the scene. The officer was not injured.”

“At this time, the shooting appears to be justified,” Greene said.

After initially being closed, Route 6 was opened to traffic in one direction at a time at about 9 p.m.

The investigation continues, according to police. “PSP is conducting the investigation with the cooperation of the Warren City Police Department, the Warren County District Attorney’s Office, and Warren County Sheriff’s Office.”

Clarendon, Glade and Pleasant volunteer fire departments assisted at the scene.
