Music returns to the mountain on Friday, August 4.

And, according to Music on the Mountain Chairman Art Lane, the third annual Drum Corps International show, held at Sheffield Area Middle Senior High School, will be bigger than ever.

The show, hosted by the Sheffield Music Boosters, will begin an hour later than in previous years, in order to accommodate those with later schedules and to make it easier for more people to attend.

Also, said Lane, “a night show is always better.”

“This is probably the largest show in the region as far as open class,” said Lane. A total of seven corps will be performing this year, five of which are in the top ten in the world, said Lane. In the lineup are 7th Regiment, New London Ct.; Blue Devils B, Concord, Ca.’ Legends, Kalamazoo, Mi.; Louisiana Stars, Lafayette, La.; Music City, Nashville, Tn.; Raiders, Burlington, N.J.; and Southwind, Mobile, Al.

Shuttles will again run from the St. Paul’s Center to the high school, easing what promises to be a heavy parking situation, Lane said. The expected turnout is around 600 to 700 people, meaning that the lots at the high school, as well as seats, will fill quickly.

“If you want to get a good seat you want to get there early,” said Lane, who added that with the potential for inclement weather in the forecast for Friday the show will be held inside the venue if thunderstorms or heavy rains prevent the show being held outside under the lights.

This year is the first year that the boosters have had ticket sales available online.

“It’s made things easier,” said Lane, who added that the boosters have sold more presale tickets than ever before this year. People tend to wait and see what the weather will be like before purchasing tickets, Lane said, as they are non-refundable.

Gates open at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, as do the concession stands and the shuttles from St. Pauls to the school. The show will start at 7 p.m.

All presale ticket sales stop on Thursday, August 3, said Lane. Presale tickets are $8 for children under 12 and $13 for adults. At the door, said Lane, prices increase to $10 for children under 12 and $15 for adults. Presale tickets can be ordered online by visiting sheffieldboosters.github.io or in person at Gaughn’s and Crones in Warren and the pharmacy and hardware stores in Sheffield. All tickets ordered online will be available at the gate.

Lane said that anyone who’s not sure whether they’d be interested in seeing the show should try and catch practices, which will be going on in Warren starting in the morning until around 2 or 3 p.m. Corps will be holding practices at Sheffield High School, Eisenhower High School, and the YMCA prior to the beginning of the show, Lane said.
