Doe licenses sold out for county’s wildlife management units

It took a little longer than usual, but doe licenses for the two wildlife management units (WMUs) in Warren County are sold out.

According to Warren County Treasurer Denny Munksgard, WMU 2F’s allocation of 24,000 licenses sold out on July 18 and the last of the 35,000 available for WMU 1B was sold on Tuesday. Those licenses will be mailed later in August, Munksgard said.

Both units had increased allocations this year as the Pennsylvania Game Commission works to manage the herd. In 2016, there were 29,000 licenses in WMU 1B and 22,000 in WMU 2F.

The two WMUs split Warren County along route 62, 6, and 27 with 1B being to the west, and 2F being east.

Most of the WMUs in rural areas throughout the state are sold out, but there are thousands of tags available in the southwestern and southeastern parts of the state.

For WMUs 2B (Pittsburgh area), 5C and 5D (Philadelphia area) “hunters can apply for, and receive, an unlimited number,” Munksgard said. Hunters may not send more than three applications in an envelope.

Starting on Aug. 28, if there are licenses available for those three WMUs, they may be purchased “over-the-counter” at any county treasurer’s office.

In most WMUs in the state, the deer seasons begin on Monday, Nov. 27, for antlered deer only. Both antlered and antlerless deer may be taken by those with the appropriate licenses from Saturday, Dec. 2, through Saturday, Dec. 9. The seasons are concurrent throughout in 2B, 5C, and 5D.

Starting at $3.50/week.
