Scully resigns as Glade supervisor

Glade Township is down a supervisor as of Tuesday night.

A release from Glade Township on Thursday indicates that they “reluctantly accepted” the resignation of Joe Scully, one of three Glade Township supervisors, at a township meeting this week.

With his resignation, Scully said, he will be cutting his second term as supervisor short by around six months.

Scully, the release states, “resigned effective immediately, in a letter given to the township manager.”

Glade Township Secretary Tiffany Smith declined to state the reason Scully gave for his resignation.

Scully on Thursday confirmed that he had in fact resigned due to dissatisfaction over “the way one particular situation was handled.”

Scully went on to say, “I am a firm believer in communication. I’m a team player. I enjoyed working with them but I just didn’t like how a certain situation was handled and I thought it was best for the township and for everybody if I resigned.”

Scully also declined to comment on the specifics of the situation he cited as the catalyst for his stepping down.

With his resignation as a township supervisor, Scully said he is also off the November ballot in which he planned to run for a third term as one of the Glade Township supervisors.

“I was looking forward to another term,” said Scully, “but it just didn’t work out.”

Scully said that he does intend to be active in other county issues in which he is interested, but that he will not be serving as an official of Glade Township from this point forward.

The release from Glade Township says that “the supervisors are in search of somebody to fill Mr. Scully’s remaining six months term.”

The supervisors intent is that the person they choose to fill the vacant position will also be someone willing to take Scully’s place on the November ballot, and if elected at that time, to serve the full six year term.

The position, said Smith, involves a number of different responsibilities, all revolving around the central task of “working with the board to ensure that the township runs smoothly.”

The remaining Glade Township Supervisors, Rusty Zigler and David Sedon, have 30 days from Tuesday to fill the position, said Smith, “so we’re kind of on a time limit.” Anyone interested in the position may submit a resume and/or statement of interest to the township office, at 1285 Cobham Park Road by mailing it, or dropping it off. Anyone wishing to drop off in person may do so between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with secretary Tiffany Smith. All applicants must have resumes and statements in by the next township meeting, which is scheduled for July 11 at 7 p.m. For more information about the position, contact Smith at (814) 726-2159 or email secretary@gladetwp.org.
