The affidavit, completed by Detective T. Cravitz, relied on interviews with two of Ashley’s best friends.
“In 2011,” the affidavit states, “Ashley and Adam met in Louisiana when they both worked for the same restaurant. They were involved in an intimate relationship and they lived together in Louisiana. In April, 2015, Adam was accepted into culinary school in Boulder, and he moved to Colorado. Ashley and Adam ended their relationship and she wanted a clean break. However, shortly after Adam left Louisiana, Ashley found out that she was pregnant. She went to Pennsylvania to stay with her family for approximately 1.5 months and then she came to Boulder in the fall of 2015. Adam told her that he wanted them to live together as one happy family.
“When she arrived in Boulder, she learned Adam was sharing a house with multiple people. She was uncomfortable with that living arrangement, so she got a job and found her own place to live. Adam then moved into Ashley’s apartment.
“When Winter was born, Adam refused to sign the birth certificate because he told people he did not identify as ‘Adam’ any longer. He wanted to be known as Semus. Boulder police obtained a copy of the birth certificate and no father is listed.
“Adam never introduced Winter to people as his daughter. He always referred to Winter as ‘Ashley’s daughter.’ Ashley has always been the primary parent for Winter. Ashley breastfed Winter and it continued into February 2017. Ashley never went anywhere without Winter. She has traveled with Winter to Pennsylvania to visit family.
“Ashley grew very unhappy in their relationship and she wanted out. For months she tried to get Adam to leave the apartment. Ashley had a paternity test done and on Feb. 8, 2017, (and) she was notified that Adam was Winter’s father.
“Ashley started dating another person… and she told Adam about it one week (before Feb. 15). Since that time, Adam has refused to babysit Winter when Ashley went to work (Winter was never enrolled in daycare).
“On Jan. 28, Ashley sent (one friend) a text. She wrote, ‘I hate him on all levels.’ She informed (her friend) that Adam had no one in his life besides Winter and her, and he was facing losing both of them.
“Both (friends) stated that Ashley has never been without Winter. (One friend) stated, ‘she would never let Winter’ out of her sight, she has never been without that baby.’
“Winter is 13 months old. She has lived with her mother her entire life. She shares her mother’s last name, and her mother, Ashley, has been her primary caregiver. Ashley Mead has never spent a night away from her daughter.”
“The last communication from Ashley to her friends occurred on Feb. 12, 2017. She told people that she and Adam had been fighting and she wanted to leave him. She sent (one friend) a text at noon that stated Adam (aka Semus) was an alcoholic and a blob. A picture was included in the text of Adam passed out on a couch.
“Adam’s criminal history revealed that he was arrested in 2008 in Bossier County, Louisiana, for Abuse Battery-Domestic Violence. In that report, his then wife (not Ashley) reported that she decided she was too young to be married and wanted out of the relationship. She told this to Adam and he started yelling. Police were called and when they arrived they found Adam with his hands around his wife’s throat.
“Ashley has not been seen or heard from since Sunday night, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m. During a safety sweep of her apartment by Boulder police on Feb. 12, it was discovered that Ashley’s cell phone and identification were still in the residence, but no sign of Ashley.
“Ashley, who is in regular contact with family, friends, and coworkers, informed no one that Adam would be taking Winter away from Boulder without Ashley. Ashley did not send any emails, text messages or communications on social media that she was going to be separated from Winter.”
The affidavit states that Densmore and Winter were last seen on Feb. 14 in Louisiana by Densmore’s family.
The affidavit for violation of custody was the original charge that resulted in Densmore’s arrest outside Tulsa, Okla. He was later charged with murder when a torso was discovered at a gas station in nearby Okmulgee, where Densmore was believed to have stopped after leaving Louisiana.
