Adagio Health closes in Warren
As of Friday, July 1, Adagio Health of Warren closed its doors, along with offices in Clearfield, Sharon, and Alle-Kiski, Pa.
Kathy Risko, chief of external affairs for Adagio, said that the decision was a financial one, with funding being cut for Title 10 programs, which are Family Planning programs under the Public Health Service Act of 1970. Changes enacted with the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in March of 2010, and other changes in healthcare in general, said Risko, also contributed to Adagio reworking its business model.
Adagio is the name of the network of providers that serves 23 counties in western Pennsylvania, said Risko. Patients of the Warren office, said Kathy Giunta, Warren’s office manager, were being referred to Primary Health Networks prior to the office’s official closing on the first of July. Patients were also given a toll free number to call in order to have their records transferred or to get help with referrals to other providers, said Risko.
Additionally, said Risko, the employees at all of the four offices being closed were assisted with resumes and referrals to other employers. “We wanted to make sure that everyone lands on their feet,” said Risko.
Regarding whether or not there are plans to close any offices in the near future, Risko said she wasn’t sure. Said Risko, “Funding for family planning is going to be interesting in the future, depending on who our next president turns out to be,” adding that, “I’d love to be able to say ‘of course not,’ but we never know what’s going to happen in the future.”
