Canada Post sending kids’ letters to Santa
The North Pole officially lies in International Waters and cannot be claimed as the sovereign property of any country.
For those trying to decide how to send mail there, that can be a problem.
Santa Claus has an official mailing address through Canada Post. Children who would like to send letters to Santa should address them to Santa Claus, North Pole H0H 0H0, Canada. (Those are zeroes in the ho-ho-ho.)
According to a press release from Canada Post, Santa and his elves are proficient in many languages.
Children who send their letters, with full return addresses, to Santa by Dec. 16 will receive return letters in time for Christmas. After that, according to the press release, the residents will not have time to respond. “It’s a long way to the North Pole and back.”
Some mailers may wonder why Santa Claus, who is capable of delivering presents to every child worldwide, would need a valid return address. Canada Post addresses that concern – “While Santa knows where your house is, his postal team may need extra instructions, so please include your address to ensure your letter is delivered on time.”
Return postage is not required. The cost of a U.S. Postal Service first class international letter is $1.20.
Canada Post said it expects to receive about 1.5 million letters to Santa.
