Youngsville Heart & Soul to host photo contest

Kids are pictured using a parachute to make fish “flip and flop” in the air during Youngsville Library’s “Fiction & Fitness” partnership summer program with the Youngsville YMCA. The July 19 topic was Sharks. Target ages are 3-12, but all are welcome, no registration required. There are three more program dates for the summer series and each program features a themed story with corresponding fitness activity, snack, and take-home craft. Location is behind the Youngsville YMCA from 10 to 11 a.m., rain or shine. If rain, the group meets beneath the Island Park Pavilion. There are three more dates remaining: Wednesdays, Aug. 2 — Carnival day theme; August 16 — fish and wildlife them; and August 23 — soccer theme.

A local photo contest for pictures taken within the Youngsville Borough, Brokenstraw Township and Pittsfield Township is accepting entries.

Sponsored by Heart & Soul Youngsville Borough and in part by PA Humanities, organizers want to see what area residents love about the local area in pictures. Those enterin can receive a chance at a $25 gift certificate to a local business just for entering. Each category winner will receive a $50 gift certificate for a local business.

The deadline for entries is midnight, Friday, July 31. Winners will be notified no later than Aug. 15. There are six categories to choose from. Enter atform.jotform.com/231457444259158. Detailed rules and regulations are also on the website.

Each person may submit up to three photos per category, with one category per submission, though photographers can make multiple submissions. The winning photos from each category will be entered into the grand prize contest where the grand prize winner will have their photo made into a large canvas and hung on display at the Youngsville Borough Office Building with their name listed as the photographer. Categories include:

¯ The Local Area We Love (show what one loves most about the local area),

¯ Completely Unique (What makes this area so unique?)

¯ Landscapes: What are some of the Best Scenic View in the Local Area,

¯ Favorite Place to Spend Time in the Outdoors (show where one’s best memories took place, in the local area, while enjoying the outdoors);

¯ Past or Present, Indoors or Out — Show a Favorite Event in Local Area;

¯ Home Grown, Homemade or a Local Food Eatery: Show a favorite food.

Island Park Music: Youngsville’s weekly Island Park music series starts at 6 p.m. each Thursday at Island Park. Bring a chair or blanket for seating. Performing country music on Thursday is Alyssa Wismar while Callie Williams will perform Aug. 3.

LIBRARY NEWS

Amazing Animals Program: Monday, July 24 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Youngsville Library. No registration required. Listen to nature stories, learn about fascinating creature features, enjoy a snack, and leave with a take-home craft. Only two dates left in this seven-part program. July 24, and July 31. Target ages 4-12 years, but all are welcome.

Sensory Storytime Program: Tuesday, July 25, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Youngsville Library. This program targeted for ages 4-12 includes stories, interacting with peers, exploring sensory bins, and various fun activities that stress development of fine and gross motor skills. No registration necessary.

STEM-ulating Stories Program: Wednesday, July 26, from 1 to 2 p.m. is the last day of the STEM-ulating Stories with Sara program at the Youngsville Library. The theme for the 26th will be ping-pong rollercoaster creations. Target ages are 5-12 years but all are welcome. No registration required. Join us for some science fun as you build, experiment, and create.

FREE SNACKS: Free summer snacks are offered at the Youngsville Public Library during business hours: Monday and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Fridays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is the eighth year that the Youngsville Library has offered free summer snacks to kids. Snacks are located in the foyer area of the library and are self-serve. No registration is needed and those who participate do not have to participate each day. Just walk-in daily and grab a snack of choosing and/or small bottle of water. PA CareerLink Workshops: Wednesday, July 26, from noon to 3 p.m. PA CareerLink TEF, Christopher Hinchman, will be at the Youngsville Library to assist with job search information, free career training options, and to present a computer literacy workshop. Noon – 1:00 pm is the timeslot for free, Walk-in one-on-one assistance to help you with your personal career needs (i.e. resume writing, job search options, etc.). 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Stop in and learn about the over 6,000 free training, classes, and webinar style workshop options that are available to you. 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm is the free workshop entitled “Computer Literacy.” Learn computer basics, navigation tips and tricks, and much more. Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. the Wilder Museum of Warren County History presents Warren County Tales “RIVER BOOTS, a Fish Warden’s Tales of Pennsylvania Fish and Game Law Enforcement” by Robert Lynn Steiner. Bring a lawn chair for the program at the Wilder Museum (51 Erie Ave., Irvine). Author Robert Steiner will share his thought-provoking experiences as a conservation officer for more than 27 years.
