Activities available at Youngsville Public Library

Pool noodles, loop-de-loops, duct tape, and marbles added up to fun experimenting with centripetal force! After listening to a “pool noodle-themed” story, children had the opportunity to create their own pool noodle roller coaster at the Youngsville Library (100 Broad St.) during the STEM-ulating Stories with Sara program. There are two more dates for the program on Wednesday, July 19, and Wednesday, July 26, from 1 to 2 p.m. Targeted ages are 5 – 12 years, but all are welcome. There is a different STEM activity/subject for each program date. No registration required to attend.

¯ Amazing Animals: What do bats, spiders, lobsters, and owls/raptors have in common? They’ve all been featured in Youngsville Library’s Amazing Animals Program! Monday, July 17th from 10:30 am – 11:30 am is the next Amazing Animals program for target ages 4-12 years, but all are welcome! No registration required to attend. Each program in this series features: a nature story (a different animal each week), nature facts, a craft you can take-home or choose to complete at the library, and a snack. There are only 3 more dates left for this program: July 17th, July 24th, and July 31st.

¯ Fiction & Fitness Fun: On Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. the Youngsville Public Library and the Youngsville YMCA will team up for another day of the “Fiction & Fitness” program. Target ages are 3-12 years but all are welcome. Location is behind the Youngsville YMCA, rain or shine. If rain, we will meet beneath the Island Park pavilion. There is no registration for this free program. There are four more dates left for this program: July 19, August 2, August 16, and August 23.

Each program in this free six-part series will feature themed stories, with a corresponding fitness activity, a healthy snack, and a take-home craft. There is a new theme each week. July 19th will be sharks! You do not have to attend all the sessions. However, new this year, for each week that a child attends they will receive both a FREE Yngs YMCA day-pass and a FREE raffle ticket chance to win various give-away prizes (up to 6 chances, one for each program date).

¯ Area residents can get free one-on-one help with questions you might have about your iphone, ipad, tablet or other devices on the third Wednesday, of each month from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Just walk-in, no appointment necessary. Need help downloading apps? Wondering how to streamline your email? Or just have general questions about how to access features on your phone or tablet? Then “Wi-Fi Wednesday” is for you!

This Free, monthly “Wi-Fi Wednesday” day is also known as a “BYOD” program (Bring Your Own Device). Devices aren’t limited to just apple products, you can also bring in other devices such as android, kindle, laptops, and other tablets. Be sure to remember to bring your charger and/or passwords, if applicable. The Youngsville Public Library offers Wi-Fi that is free-to-the-public 24-7.

¯ Free snacks snacks are offered at the Youngsville Public Library during business hours: Monday & Wednesday 10 am – 6 pm, Tuesdays 10 am – 3 pm, and Fridays 11 am – 4 pm. This is the 8th year that Youngsville Library has offered free summer snacks to kids. Snacks are located in the foyer area of the library and are self-serve. No registration is needed and you do not have to participate each day. Just walk-in daily and grab a snack of your choosing and/or small bottle of water.

MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

¯ Chicken BBQ: Saturday, July 15th from 11:00 am until sold out, Chicken BBQ at the Youngsville American Legion (10 North Main street). Cost is $12.00 donation. BBQ is sponsored by the Sons of the American Legion. Public welcome.

¯ Free Outreach Luncheon: Wednesday, July 19th is the free monthly, outreach Luncheon offered at the Hessel Valley Lutheran church. Serving starts at 11:30 am. Menu: Pulled Pork, potato salad, pasta salad, baked beans, and a variety of desserts. All are welcome!

¯ Benefit Dinner: Saturday, July 22nd from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm (or sold out), there will be a Spaghetti Benefit Dinner at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church. Drive thru or pick up only! Dinner service will be from the bottom of the church driveway. Cost is by donation. The recipient is 5-year old Libby Potter. Libby Potter was riding to church with her parents and siblings on May 28th when they were hit by a one-ton truck. The impact totaled the family van and resulted in three kids and both parents going to the hospital. Sadly, Libby’s injuries were the most severe and resulted in emergency brain surgery in Buffalo, ICU, and an extensive hospital stay. It is too early to tell how permanently Libby and the other members of the family will be affected. Funds will go towards future surgery costs and making sure that Libby and the rest of her family get the care that they need. Unable to attend but would still like to donate? ¯ Island Park Music: Thursday, July 20th starting at 6:00 pm is the free music at Island Park Series, presented by the Youngsville Borough. Musician Sarah Marino will be featured. Bring a chair or blanket and a snack and come and enjoy this free music series each Thursday now through August 24th.
