SOUPer BOWL EVENT IS SUNDAY

Several events are on tap in the region in the coming week, including the annual SOUPer Bowl fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the the Warren Eagles Club, 2101 Pennsylvania Ave. East. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 per child. There are unlimited soup samples and trophies for first, second and third place soups. The fundraiser will also include music by DJ Dave, a Chinese auction, 50/50 giveaways and more. All proceeds benefit the Warren Cancer Center for advanced treatment defining tumors and reducing many radiation treatments from between 20 and 30 sessions down to between one and five sessions.

Annual Women Are Wonderful: The 21st annual Women Are Wonderful Event at the Jefferson DeFrees Center is Saturday, Feb. 11. Doors open at 8:15 a.m. at the center, 207 Second Ave., Warren. The event feature workshops, speakers, make-and-take items, a 50/50 giveaway and door prizes. Learn to line dance, needle felt, learn self-defense, how to prepare Indian cuisine and more. There will be a coffee/tea breakfast bar with new additions of a mimosa and bloody mary bar. Pre-registration is required at the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center. Registration is $40 and covers food, beverages, make and take items, and a donation to Free The Girls. Fee must be paid at the time of registration. Call 814-723-6350 with questions and to register.

Animals in Winter Program: Hear stories, do a craft and educational activities at the Animals in Winter program sponsored by Chapman State Park on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 2 to 3 p.m. The park is located at 4790 Chapman Dam Road, Clarendon, with the program to be held in the Environmental Learning Center, across from the park office. The program is best suited for children between the ages of 3 and 8, but all families are welcome. Materials and space are limited and regsitration is requested by visiting eventsreg.dcnr.pa.gov/register/create/42111986032180.

LIBRARY NEWS

The Youngsville Public Library has a Facebook page that helps keep area residents in the loop about upcoming library events, book club meeting dates, free workshops, newest book additions to the library shelves and more library-related items.

The library laso posts general information, links and fliers regarding community events and community news. Be sure to follow Youngsville Public Library (Youngsville-public-library for quick search). To get an organization’s information posted on the Youngsville Library’s Facebook page, the library’s Community News webpage at youngsvillelibrary.org community news tab and submitted to the Youngsville News section that runs weekly in the Times Observer, email YPLCommunityCalendar@gmail.com. Include fliers and pictures if available.

Tax Forms: Those who need specialty tax forms can request Youngsville Library staff to print them from the irs.gov site at a cost of 25 cents per page for printing. To access links for federal, state, and local forms visit youngsvillelibrary.org and click on the tax form icon; forms and instruction booklets can also be requested via these links. Free tax help: Senior citizens or those who make less than $65,000 per year are eligible for the free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. The first step to getting assistance involves picking up and completing an intake form and corresponding envelope to hold all necessary information (which is listed on an instruction sheet). The Youngsville Public Library has a small supply of both the yellow intake forms and special envelope to save an initial trip to the Allegheny Community Center. The library also has instruction sheets available listing specific directions and necessary submission material. Once the initial paperwork is completed, return all material to the Allegheny Community Center, 42 Clark St., Warren. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come to the back entrance on the ground floor, up the ramp and through the doors. Call 814-723-4180 for more information.

Youngsville Library hours are Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BOROUGH NEWS

Faucet drip reminder: A reminder from the Youngsville Public Works Department — with the upcoming cold, single-digit, temperatures, area residents may want to consider leaving a faucet drip to avoid frozen water lines. Those who plan to do so can call the borough office at 814-563-4604, ext. 4.

Odd/even parking: Regardless of the weather conditions, odd/even parking will continue within the borough through March 31. On odd days of the week park starting at 8 a.m. on the odd-house number sides of the street until 8 a.m. on even-number days of the week. On even days of the week park starting at 8 a.m. on the even-house number sides of the street until 8 a.m. on odd number days of the week.
