Borough Updates

For the latest borough information, visit the Youngsville Borough’s Facebook page. There you can learn details about various programs, such as the times and days for the WCSD’s “Grab-and-Go” breakfast and lunch pick-ups scheduled at Youngsville High School as well as the COVID-19 Working Capital Access (CWCA) Program to assist small businesses in PA with less than 100 employees to provide working capital.

The Youngsville Borough office continues to be open by phone, email, and through the dropbox to the right of the front doors. Contact the borough at (814) 563-4604 with further questions.

Public Library Updates

As mandated by Governor Tom Wolfe, there was a statewide closure of all public libraries in PA in alignment with school closures. Since Governor Wolfe has continued to extend the K-12 closures, public libraries will continue to be closed as well (unless informed otherwise).

Return policy extended: Youngsville Library will continue to relax its borrowing policy to coincide with the mandated closures. For Youngsville Library, all late fees will be suspended and due dates extended during the period it is ordered to close (from March 13 to reopen date, yet to be determined). Patrons do not need to call the library for renewals at this time and may continue to enjoy the items that they have already borrowed, without penalty. The drop box is still open for the return of any library materials 24/7.

Free school resources for kids and parents: On the YoungsvilleLibrary.org website (under references tab/general references), there is a direct link to a free educational site called Khan Academy. This is a one-stop site that offers self-paced, interactive content — exercises, videos, lessons, articles and more–for students in every grade and in most major subject areas. It is free and non-commercial. Parents can also use tools to monitor your child’s progress and even assign specific work. On the main Khan Academy page, there are additional links specifically for parents that include a Parent Quick Start Guide, FAQ page, and other pertinent information regarding ready-made educational lessons that are grade specific for your child.

Khan Academy has also included daily schedule templates that you can adopt, as is, or modify to help structure your child’s day to include fun educational lessons.

Student schedules are grouped into four categories: (1) Preschool, kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade, (2) 3rd to 5th grade, (3) 6th to 9th grade, and (4) 10th to 12th grade.

Khan Academy also offers specific lessons in math, science, literacy skills/comprehension, social studies, and even enrichment opportunities.

The schedule template page has built-in links to make it easier to assign grade-and-subject-specific lessons. This site and other student-minded resources (such as Duolingo for languages) can be found on the YoungsvilleLibrary.org website (references/general reference tab).

Free e-book/audio book access for all: Although students can access free, grade-appropriate books through Khan Academy (see above), it is also possible to access additional e-books and audio books through the library’s OverDrive system for kids and adults alike.

Don’t have a library card? Lost your library card? Have a library card but don’t remember your password? No problem. It is now possible to create a temporary online “digital library card” through OverDrive that will stay active through the mandated public library closures.

The link to OverDrive can be found on the home page of Youngsville Public library’s website at YoungsvilleLibrary.org. When registering for a “digital library card,” you will need to provide a mobile phone number and your first and last name, to verify that you are a resident within Warren County. The OverDrive system will then send you a verification code (via text message to your mobile phone) to verify the mobile phone number is associated with you.

Once you are validated as having a residential address within your library’s service area, your mobile phone number will serve as your digital library card and you will be able to access and checkout digital content from our Seneca District OverDrive digital collection.

Once libraries are allowed to reopen, patrons just need to come into the library to get an actual library card so that they can continue to access free eMaterials through OverDrive services from the account that was temporarily created. The library is creating this new service in an effort to continue to offer e-resources while it must be physically closed.

Programming suspended: Regular programming that would have occurred at Youngsville Library has been suspended until it is allowed to reopen its doors. April events that must currently be cancelled include: April 14th, Speaker Series (“Lunch and Learning at Lawson’s”), Technology Tuesdays, the April 14th NWPA workshop, and the PACareerLink workshops scheduled for April 7th and 24th. This includes any other organizational meetings that have scheduled the use of the conference room services for the month of April.
