Photo submitted to Times Observer Students and parents lined up to go inside the Carnegie Science “inflatable classroom” on Monday at YEMS. The YEMS PTO sponsored this fun, free night of Science and exploration. Kids and adults alike had the opportunity to learn about the sun and the moon, interact with STEM centers, use microscopes, use a heat sensing camera and much more. The YEMS PTO still needs volunteers to help with Field Week on Monday and Tuesday, May 27 and 28. Call 563-7207 if you’d like to help.

Free Movie Night

On Friday, May 10, there is a Free Movie Night at Otterbein UMC (258 Dalrymple St. Pittsfield) from 7 to 9 p.m. The movie title is “I Can Only Imagine.” The public is welcome; refreshments available.

Borough news

Saturday, May 11: Borough Spring Clean-up, 8 a.m. to noon at Borough Building Parking Lot. ID is required as you must reside in the borough. Minimum fees are $10/car, $20/truck, and $20/trailer. See YoungsvilleLibrary.org/(community news tab) for a list of items that are not allowed.

Also May 10: Borough Scrap Metal Day, 8 a.m. to noon at Borough Building Parking Lot (Friends of BVSPool will be collecting Scrap metal). See YoungsvilleLibrary.org (community news tab) for acceptable items.

Wednesday, May 22: Borough recycle pick-up day. Recycle items must be placed in bags before 7 a.m. For questions regarding acceptable recycle materials, contact the Borough Office at 563-4604.

Monday, May 27: The Borough office will be closed and there will be no DPW services in observance of Memorial Day. Monday’s garbage day will be scheduled for pickup on Tuesday, May 28, and Tuesday’s garbage day will be scheduled for pick up on Wednesday, May 29.

Free JoyFull Cafe Meals

The JoyFull Cafe, located at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church, 179 Davis Street, will continue to serve free Community Meals on Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. through the month of May.

After the May 29 meal, the community meals program will be taking a break for the summer. Volunteers are always needed to help prepare meals, serve meals, or help with clean up after meals. Visit YBFree.org if you’re interested in volunteering.

The meal for Wednesday, May 15, is Sloppy Joes. The May 22 meal will be spaghetti and salad bar, and; Wednesday, May 29, will be a soup and salad bar.

Special Mother’s Day Service

For Mother’s Day, the Youngsville Free Methodist (179 Davis Street) is bringing back the Glory Way Quartet. Providing Southern Gospel entertainment, Glory Way is a crowd favorite and the YFMC is excited to have them back for another year. Glory Way will be performing during YFMC’s worship service on Sunday, May 12, at 9:30 a.m. The service is open to the public.

National Train Day Celebration

On Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be a National Train Day Celebration at the Sheffield PRR Depot (75 Depot Street, Sheffield). Refreshments will be available and train toys will be for sale. Model trains will be running: S-scale, O27, and HO. Call (814) 723-1795 with questions.

Troop 22 Yard Sale

Boy Scouts of America Troop 22 will be holding a yard sale fundraiser at the Irvine Presbyterian Church (905 National Forge Rd, Irvine). All donations will benefit Troop 22. Yard Sale dates are Thursday, May 9, from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, May 11, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
