Youngsville Life

Pictured are Kristy Wallace, Marilyn Johnson, Connie Lucia and Karen Kays, Youngsville Library staff and friends, who raised funds by providing Tacos at last year’s Christmas Walk at the Youngsville Fire Hall. You are invited to come and see the librarian’s new “Taco” hat this year.

Hometown Christmas

tonight

Youngsville’s Hometown Christmas is tonight, Thursday, Dec. 8, from 6 to8 pm at the Youngsville Fire Hall.

This is a family-friendly community event filled with holiday themed entertainment and activities. There is no charge to attend. Holiday entertainment will be showcased in the main room of the fire hall.

From roughly 6 to 6:40 p.m., Kathy, Adrian, and Pastor Ed start off the evening’s entertainment with  a fun mixture of interactive Australian holiday favorites and more traditional, uplifting holiday tunes; audience members will be encouraged to sing along with many of the songs and song booklets will be made available on site.

Next the Conewango Clippers will demonstrate their harmonizing prowess of the barbershop style, followed by the Saron Lutheran Church handbell choir. Closing out the evening’s entertainment will be the sounds of the Saron Lutheran Choir, which  will be including three sing-a-long songs in their performance.

The YVFD’s “new truck room” will be a hub of activity with the Bubblegum DJ providing interactive, musical entertainment for kids of all ages. Officer Mineweaser will be meeting with kids and passing out goody bags sponsored by Youngsville Borough. Youngsville High School’s Eagle’s Eye group will offer face painting, for a donation, and there will be a coloring table for the kids too. The coloring table will include coloring contest sheets too.

In the YVFD classroom areas, kids can visit with Santa Claus where they will receive a candy cane, goody bag, a gently-used book, and a coloring contest page for kids from pre-K through fifth grade (coloring contest and Santa supplies sponsored by the Friends of the Youngsville Public Library).  Kids can also make a Christmas tree ornament for themselves (sponsored by First United Methodist Church).

Food vendor items will include walking tacos, hot dogs, chili, cookies, hot chocolate, water, pop, coffee, and some chocolate and specialty treats from Holiday Confections. In addition to other vendor tables, the Youngsville Rec Commission, BSVP, and ROY will have raffle baskets at their tables and the Friends of YPL will have a selection of RADA cutlery available for “cash and carry.” The Youngsville branch of Northwest Bank will also have a give-away table and information about the Brokenstraw Valley Fund will also be made available. Hope to see you there.

Recent Library Angels

From now through Wednesday, De. 21, the Youngsville Public Library has a special tree on display near the Circulation Desk. The Library Angel Tree is filled with a variety of ornaments listing basic items (plus their costs/donation denomination) that are vital to the survival of the library but not things that you would necessarily associate with “daily operational costs” for a library; everything from custodial supply items to energy-saving light bulbs to office supplies, acid-free historical collection materials and even general donations (just to name a few).

“p1″>Community members are encouraged to become a “Library Angel” by choosing an ornament from the tree and making a donation at the circulation desk. You will then receive a Library Angel to place back on the tree for each donation that is made. You also have the option to make a donation in honor of someone or in memoriam.  YPL business hours are Monday and Tuesday noon-7:30 pm, Wednesday 10-5 pm , and Friday noon-4 or you can mail your Angel Tree donation to Youngsville Library c/o Angel Tree, 100 Broad St., Youngsville, PA 16371. Be sure to specify who the donation is from and if it is a memorial or in honor of donation.

A special thank you to our most recent Library Angels:  Archival boxes: Sue Kibbey; Child’s DVD: In Honor of Alex from Barbara Shannon; Gas bill: Elsa Manelick; Toward Kids/youth programming: In Memory of Susan Dunn from Jim and Ellie Dunn; Energy-saving light bulbs: In memory of Carl O. Experience Christmas

at the Church

on Davis Street

Your neighbors at the Free Methodist Church on Davis Street would like to invite you and your family to several great opportunities to remember and experience the “Reason for the Season.” On Dec. 16 we will have a drama that will re-tell the story of the birth and life of Jesus Christ.

On the same night, there will be an interactive Marketplace where you will find treats to sample and a petting zoo to enjoy. There will be a variety of shops that will display crafts and goods from Bible times.

The market will open at 6 pm with the two drama presentations beginning shortly thereafter. Everything is free, so bring the family, take some pictures, and make some memories.

On Dec. 21 at 6 pm we will be having a “Blue Christmas” service in the sanctuary. The Blue Christmas service is held on the longest night of the year and will minister to those who want to celebrate the birth of Christ, but find it difficult to experience the joy of Christmas. If Christmas isn’t an especially cheery time for you due to life circumstances, this service may be just what you are looking for.

Hometown Heroes

The Hometown Heroes Banner Project is meant to honor the Youngsville area military service men and women.  Youngsville is the first community in Warren County and surrounding area to do so.  These past or present service heroes need only have served honorably at home or abroad in time of war or peace to be eligible for the banner project.

A picture of the service person will appear on both sides of the 24″ x 48″ banner, plus, branch, rank, and era of service.

More information and application can be found at www.youngsvillepa.org or email knjoviatt@verizon.net or call 563-4286.  Also, you or your business can sponsor a banner for a local hero.

The plan is to invite all the heroes and/or families to the banner reveal event on Memorial Day 2017, probable location Railroad Street. The printing company has set the number of banners at 25 to get a price break.   Help us reach the goal of 25 by giving a banner to your family hero as a Christmas gift.   A special card will be available acknowledging the banner gift to your special hero or you can request it to be a surprise.
