Thanks in a large part to donations from our patrons Youngsville Public Library, also has a great selection of magazines to choose from. If you enjoy hunting, cooking, travel, gardening, photography, fashion, family fun activities, and nature or something else, chances are YPL has a magazine that would interest you. The 88th Annual Academy Awards are this Sunday but YPL already has “The Martian,” “Straight Outta Compton,” “Spotlight,” “Steve Jobs,” “Bridge of Spies,” “Inside Out,” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” available for check-out. Join Youngsville Public Library’s Book club:
If you enjoy reading a variety of genres and discussing what you’ve read in a casual and friendly atmosphere then Youngsville Public Library’s monthly book club is for you. YPL’s book club meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 2:00 – 3:00 pm and new members are always welcome to join. On the surface, February’s book “Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker” by Jennifer Chiaverini is a fictionalized account of the friendship between Mary Todd Lincoln and her dressmaker Elizabeth Keckley, a former slave-but it is so much more. This book illuminates the extraordinary relationship the two women shared, beginning in the hallowed halls of the White House during the trials of the Civil War and enduring almost, but not quite, to the end of Mrs. Lincoln’s day. February’s book will be discussed at YPL’s next book club meeting on Tuesday, March 15th. March’s book will be “Inferno” by Dan Brown. Walk-ins are welcome. Call 563-7670 with questions.

Youngsville Life
Community Meeting in Youngsville
A Community meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 18 at the Youngsville Borough Office, 40 Railroad Street from 5:30 PM to 6:45 PM. A decision will be made on the fate of Youngsville’s annual Corn Festival, and also, to be discussed is the organizing of the Rt. 6 Heritage Hometown Heroes project. Please come and voice your opinion. Learn how your present- past family member(s) may become part of our local history.
The Hometown Heroes Banner Project, recommended in Youngsville’s Community Work Plan composed by the Pennsylvania Rt. 6 Alliance, is where banners can be purchased by family members, businesses, organizations and through fundraisers to honor past and present champions who have contributed to the Youngsville Area.
The banners will serve as a reminder of Warren Country’s history and what the Youngsville Area has contributed to our Nation. Each banner will be unique and honor a specific Youngsville Area historical or military service person; it will include his/her photo, name, branch of service and era of service or their historical significance.
One suggestion was that a guide book be placed at various locations, such as the Wilder Museum, the Visitor’s Center, and the Library, with brief stories of each hero. In this way, those following the banner tour could be informed about the heroes who influenced our area. “It’s the stories that make history interesting,” said Joanne Oviatt. “The banners will show that the memories of those who have contributed to our county will live on forever.”
The proposed route for the banners is to display them on street poles along Railroad Street, down Old Route 6, which is Main Street, to the Wilder Museum of Warren County History located in Irvine. Because it commemorates the history of our area the hope is that it will stimulate tourism.
The next meeting of the committee will be in February with plans to gather input from several service organizations such as the Rouse Estate, American Legion, Volunteer Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary and others who are proud to have contributed to the well-being of the Youngsville Area.
For information or to be part of the planning committee contact Joanne Oviatt at 814-563-4286 or email Nancy Holmberg at nancyholmberg@hotmail.com. Please put Hometown Heroes in the subject line of your email.

Order a Singing
Valentine
In the spirit of the age-old tradition of a singing telegram, the Conewango Clippers Chorus is offering a unique and fun way to send your sweetheart an unforgettable Valentine. On Friday, Feb. 12, a barbershop quartet from the Clippers will serenade your sweetheart at the place of your choosing in Warren County (work, home, hair appointment, etc.). The quartet will present your sweetheart with a rose and small box of chocolate and sing three songs to him/her – and if they see a big enough smile, or even tears, they might even sing a fourth song.
For 69 years now the Conewango Clippers have been performing at various public events throughout the county each year (free of charge), which is why this annual fundraiser is so important. Proceeds from this Valentine Fundraiser help make their charitable, public performances possible.
Why not treat your special valentine to songs, chocolate, and a rose and also help the Conewango Clippers to continue their tradition of brining song and joy to local service clubs, fairs, festivals, veteran events, church and senior citizen events, and so much more. Schedule/reserve a singing Valentine by Friday, Feb. 5 for a $20 donation; $25 donation after Feb. 5.
Love Your Library
Raffle
The Friends of the Youngsville Library’s 6th Annual “Love Your Library” Basket Extravaganza fundraising event is going on now through Friday, March 18. This year is a little bit different because the six uniquely themed choices are actually filled with gift cards, cash, or lottery tickets and not traditional “basket items”. Each “basket” has a value of $100. The six “baskets” are currently on display at the library. Winners will be drawn on March 19.
“What makes this such a great fundraising event for our library is that there is a variety of themed-choices for people to choose from, you can always find something that will appeal to you,” said Library Director Kristy Wallace. “This year the Friends of the Library decided to fill each themed ‘basket’ will gift cards, cash, or lottery tickets instead of actual items. For example there is a ‘Fill ‘er Up’ basket that has $100 in gas cards and a ‘Got Ya Covered’ basket that has a $25 Walmart, $25 Tops, and $50 Lowes gift card in it. People have the opportunity to decide which basket or baskets interest them and can distribute their tickets accordingly. So if you’re lucky enough to win, you will actually win something that you want!”
“We also want to thank all the businesses that so generously donated gift certificates to help make our baskets even better this year. Forester Restaurant, Perkins, Applebee’s, Simple Dick’s, Pete’s Beverage, Tammy’s Hairitage, Richard’s Restaurant, Tops Market, Sheetz, United Refining, Abigail Novotny (Norwex), and Darla Hernberger (Mary Kay Cosmetics) all deserve a big thank you because we wouldn’t have been able to offer so many well-stocked ‘baskets’ without their support,” Wallace said.
The six themed choices are: “Bon Appe’tit,” “Youngsville’s Finest,” “Keep on Scratching,” Cold Cash,” “Fill ‘er up,” and “Got ‘Ya Covered.” Tickets are available at the Youngsville Library during business hours and from member of the Friends or Library Board. Ten tickets for a $5 donation or one ticket for a $1 donation. Tuesday, Feb. 9 and Friday, Feb. 12 Friends will be selling tickets at Richard’s Restaurant from 4 to 7 p.m. Library business hours are Monday and Tuesday noon-7:30 p.m., Wednesday 10-5, and Friday noon-4 p.m.

The Community Foundation of Warren County is holding four additional meetings this year – all in communities outside of Warren, in an effort to make it as easy as possible for representatives from the organizations listed on Warren Gives to attend. Organizations who attend a preliminary Warren Gives meeting find them very beneficial and tend to do well on event day.

Additional meeting dates are: Saturday, Feb. 13 1 pm at Sugar Grove Free Library; Wednesday, Feb. 17, 6 p.m. at the Tidioute Library; Saturday, 1 pm in Sheffield- location TBA, and Wednesday, Feb. 24 6 pm Beckley Computer Lab at Warren Public Library. Youngsville Library has Tax Forms
As in previous years, the government is pushing towards filing tax forms on-line, which is why there is a limited availability of “hard copy” tax related items at your local library. Currently Youngsville Library has federal forms: 1040 and 1040A and hopes to receive 1040EZ and some specialty forms soon. “Hard copies” of the federal instruction booklets are no longer mailed to libraries but there are options available to you. If you want hard copies of federal specialty forms and/or instruction booklets mailed directly to you, you can go on-line at irs.gov or call 1-800-829-3676 for assistance. On the irs.gov site (forms and publications link) you can also print current and previous year forms as well as view corresponding instruction booklets.
Youngsville Library also has PA-40IN tax forms and booklets on-hand but if you need special state forms or directions use www.revenue.pa.gov. Local forms should be mailed directly to you but if you need additional forms or have questions go to hab-inc.com (Berkheimer site). The Youngsville Public Library has internet-access computers available for public use and the printing fee per page is minimal. Remember to bring your library card with you or bring current photo ID if you don’t have a library card. Library business hours: Monday and Tuesday, noon-7:30, Wednesday 10 am-5, and Friday Noon-4. Also VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance for the elderly) will be offered twice a week at the Youngsville Borough. Appointments must be scheduled through the Allegheny Community Center at 723-4180 or call for more information.
