Sponsorship and

Donations Sought

On Oct. 17 -Walk to Fight Suicide/Jamestown Out of the Darkness Community Walk Bonnie Shirey of Pittsfield (563-4217) is seeking participants, donations, or sponsorship because she will be walking for this cause. Her desire is that people be made aware that suicide is a tragedy that has touched many in this area and that help is available to those who are suffering from the effect of losing a loved one in such a manner.

Brokenstraw Valley

Fund Receives Donation

The Brokenstraw Valley Fund (BVF) received a big boost last week from the donation by John and Mary Pellegrino. The Community Foundation of Warren County will match 100 percent of all donations up to $25,000. The BVF now has $14,830 of matchable funds. That means that the Fund just needs $10,170 to reach the $25,000 start-up goal. There is also $644 match money in the Fund from Warren Gives that is not eligible for an additional match.

Pellegrino’s story is another “Local Boy Does Good” in more ways than one. His Warren County roots include growing up in Watson Township and working at the Newbold farm in Irvine. He became a structural engineer and created a successful manufacturing business in Erie known as RIDG-U-RAK. John still calls Warren County home and has restored a farm in the Hearts Content area. His success allows him to do “good” by giving back to the area.

Youngsville Public Library and the Irvine Presbyterian Church have also benefited in the past from the philanthropy of the Pellegrinos.

The Brokenstraw Valley Fund came to be as the result of ROY receiving a new challenge and an offer from the Community Foundation of Warren County to form a fund that would serve area people and organizations in the future. ROY accepted the challenge and facilitated the formation of the Brokenstraw Valley Fund (BVF) serving in and around the communities of Garland, Irvine, Pittsfield and Youngsville. The BVF functions under the Community Foundation’s rules, regulations, 501C3 status, and they manage the account’s investments.

Their offer came in the form of a pledge to match the first $25,000 in donations to the Fund, dollar for dollar. That is a 100 percent return on investments. The BVF will soon be sending out fundraising letters to area residents, organizations, and businesses.

Miracle Mountain

Ranch News

Summer camp has just passed and what a blessed season it was. In the busy-ness of summer fun, it can be hard to appreciate the blessings that abound. As a staff we recently spent some time together, looking back and praising God for His blessings. Just a few of these blessings were the 99 kids who accepted Christ as their Savior and the 305 Rancher Scholarships that were given out.

We are excited to have our 2015-2016 School of Discipleship class starting up with 27 students. Each fall we look forward to meeting these new students for the 11-month program.
