History
Luella Krieger, one of Western Pennsylvania Conference’s general evangelists, will be presenting “The Underground Railroad – A Journey to Hope” on Sunday afternoon, July 28, at 3:30 p.m. in the Youngsville First United Methodist Church sanctuary as part of the church’s bicentennial celebration.
Pool Events
Too hot too cook? Take a picnic lunch to the Youngsville Brokenstraw Pool on Thursday, May 18, and enjoy the Band “Hunger of Humanity.” The High School Band will perform from 6:30 P.M.-8:30P.M. Items available for raffle to raise funds for Breast Cancer are available in the building. Youngsville Brokenstraw Pool is open from 1 P.M. – 5:30-P.M. Swimming exercise class 5:15 P.M. – 6:15P.M. R.O.Y. progress
The sidewalk on Railroad St. is being repaired as part of the Youngsville Revitalization. Phase 2 will be the replacement of East Main Street’s aged sewer & water lines of the Youngsville redevelopment project.
Kayak/ Canoe
Poker Run
The 3rd Annual Kayak/Canoe Poker Run will be held on Aug. 24 along the Allegheny River from the Kinzua Dam to Betts Park. Registration forms are available at the Youngsville Borough Office. A t-shirt will be given to the first 100 registrants who register before Aug. 1. Cost $20 for early registration, $25 after Aug. 1 and day of event registration. Fee is per person. The fee includes food, rest stop refreshments, and giveaways. There will be 50/50 giveaways and the chance to win a new kayak. Registration is from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Cards must be turned in by 4:30 p.m. to be validated. No refunds for cancellation or no shows.
Some helpful tips: It’s a long day on the river; no alcohol is permitted on the river, bring snacks with you. Organizers will provide water and hot dogs at the rest stop for an extra snack. Bring extra dry clothes and shoes to leave in your car for afterwards, sturdy water shoes recommended, don’t forget lifejackets, and sunscreen, hat, sunglasses and bug spray.

Golf tournament
The Youngsville Wrestling Boosters will host their Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser Event on Saturday, July 27. This year the event will be held at Blueberry Golf Course in Russell beginning at 8 a.m. Pre- registration for each team is required. Individual registration Fee is $65 and additional events will be held throughout the morning on the course. To register your team, sponsor the event, make a donation, or for more information, please call 563-1606.

Yard Sales
The Annual YABA Community Yard Sales will be held July 19-21, all day, every day of the event. Thursday and Sunday are optional sale days. There will be garage/yard sales all over Youngsville and well as in the downtown area. Items for ROY to sell may be dropped off at the Artistry Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ROY sale will be held Thursday, July 18, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday, July 20, 9 a.m. until noon. Anyone who can help work, please contact Helga at 563-4959.
Helga has not been feeling well, so volunteering an hour or two during the sale will be appreciated very much. All of the proceeds go to support community events or projects. If it is hot, most of the sale stuff will be in the ROY store portion of the Bizarre Bazaar with fans going. New volunteers are welcomed as some of us oldies are getting burned out. The ROY booth will be located in front of Allegheny Artistry. If you have items you would like to donate, they may be dropped off at the Artistry starting on Wednesday, July 18 (no clothes, please!). CornFest ‘Basket’
This year’s CornFest “Basket” can be viewed in the Allegheny Artistry window. Tickets are $1 each or 3 for $2. The “basket” contains over $400 in merchandise. This year’s theme is “Your Local Businesses”. All items were donated by Youngsville businesses. Tickets are available at the Allegheny Artistry, Youngsville Pharmacy or from a ROY member.
Wilder talk
You’re invited to come listen to “Henry Rouse” talk about his life and contribution to Warren County at Warren County Tales on Thursday, July 25, at 6 p.m.. Listen as “Henry Rouse” talks of his life as a student, teacher and oilman by the firelight on the lawn at the Wilder Museum of Warren County History 51 Erie Avenue, Irvine . YHS Alumni
The YHS Alumni committee again is asking area residents and businesses to plan ahead with displaying ‘Paint the Town Red’ during the Homecoming weekend, September 19 – 21, Supporting the mighty Eagles and celebrating Youngsville High School’s Homecoming the committee will be lining the parade route with balloons to the traditional bonfire at Mike Shine Field. All alumni are invited to join in the ‘March Down Memory Main’ as the past tradition was a Snake Dance lead by the football players, cheerleaders, spectators and the grand YHS Marching Band.
Other weekend events include the tour of YHS, Homecoming football game, alumni breakfast, open house for alumni at Abplanalp’s Dairy Bar, cruise-in poker run, followed by a dinner/ dance honoring Jack and Florence Abplanalp for the unforgettable high school memories at their local teenage hang out. Book Fair
A “Books Are Fun” book fair will be held at the Rouse Home on Thursday July 11 from 10:00-3:30. Quality Books at discount prices. Many children’s books & toys as well as how to books, cookbooks, decorations & much more will be for sale. Ten percent of profits go to the Rouse Activity fund to provide quality programs & entertainment for the residents. The public is welcome & encouraged to attend. Stop in & do some shopping to benefit a good cause!
YHS Alumni Picnic
The YHS annual alumni picnic is still going to be held at 1noon on Tuesday, July 9, however, instead of being held at the Youngsville High School, it will be held at the Youngsville Fire Hall. Bring a dish to pass. Meat and beverages and tableware will be provided.
Rouse celebration
On Tuesday the Suites at Rouse held a “Red, White, and Blue” picnic. All residents and staff enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, baked beans, and watermelon out on the front patio. Strawberry shortcake was served for dessert.
Entertainment was provided by Russ Keyser.
Community dinner
A community dinner will be held at St. Francis on July 9. The menu will be baked chicken, side dish and dessert from 4-6 p.m.
Receives award
On June 24, Caroline Johnson, owner of Johnson Transportation, and Connie Hale, bus driver and secretary for Johnson Transportation, attended the 33rd annual convention and trade show for the Pennsylvania School Bus Association in State College,. At the banquet, Johnson Transportation was honored with the Platinum Bus Award signifying that they have been in the school bus industry for 75 years and it has been with the same family throughout that time.
Johnson Transportation received a banner, an engraved crystal bowl, and a diamond school bus pin.
Johnson Transportation has been a family owned and operated business since 1924.
Bike Trail
“A meeting of people interested in the Youngsville Bike Trail will be held at the Youngsville Borough building at 7 p.m., July 11. All persons willing to join in the final phase of making this attractive addition to Youngsville a reality are encouraged to attend. Farewell dinner
A farewell dinner was held at Youngsville First United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 23, for Rev. Seth McClymonds, Jr. and his family and Rev. John Gerber. Rev. McClymonds has been appointed to Warren Covenant United Methodist Church and Assistant Pastor for Warren Grace United Methodist Church.
Rev. John Gerber and Rev. Anette Gerber have been appointed to the Erie- Meadville District.
A Journey of Hope
Luella Krieger, one of Western Pennsylvania Conference’s general evangelists, will be presenting “The Underground Railroad – A Journey to Hope” on Sunday afternoon, July 28, at 3:30 P.M. in the Youngsville First United Methodist Church sanctuary as part of the church’s bicentennial celebration. Luella, and her husband Jim, sold their home in 2002 when Jim’s secular job ended. They moved into a fifth wheel trailer and said, “Here we are, send us.” God has sent them to various places throughout the United States. They bring God’s word to life dramatically through sharing their creation of “Visitors from the Past.”
Luella Kreiger’s ancestral home of Sugar Grove was deeply involved in the Underground Railroad. Luella takes on the role of Martha Miller who is a member of the “Ladies Fugitive Aid Society.” As a part of the Underground Railroad, she has made her home a “station.” You will find the presentation “A Journey to Hope” both educational and inspiring through the stories portrayed.
Luella recently portrayed Mary of Magdala at Wesley Woods during the UMW’s Day Apart; and portrayed Susanna Wesley at Annual Conference, providing the Golden Slipper awards.
