Photos submitted to Times Observer The 14th Annual Wild Game Feast was held on Sunday at the Tippy Canoe. There were over 15 dishes of wild game.

Photos submitted to Times Observer George Lilja of Warren General Hospital met with Linda Scott to discuss and make plans for the 22nd annual Tidioute Health Fair set this year for March 25. Appointments can be made by calling Linda at 484-7525.

Senior Center Menu

Thursday, February 2  will be Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad, navy bean soup, Italian bread, diced pears.

Monday, February 6 will be Roast Turkey and Gravy, homemade stuffing, carrots, wheat bread, applesauce.

Tuesday, February 7 will be Spaghetti and meatballs, mixed greens, Italian bread, sliced peaches.

Thursday, February 9 will be Hot Roast Beef Sandwich with gravy, whipped potatoes, peas and carrots, wheat bread, sugar cookie.

Monday, February 13 will be Sloppy Joe sandwich, baked potato soup, wheat sandwich roll, pineapple tidbits.

Tuesday, February 14 will be House Blend Chicken Breast with gravy, Lyonnaise Potatoes, broccoli, wheat bread, cherry cheesecake.

Thursday, February 16 will be Sweet Sausage with peppers and onions, sausage roll, redskin potatoes, green beans, chocolate ice cream.

Monday, February 20 the center will be closed for Presidents Day.

Tuesday, February 21 will be Baked Turkey Pot Pie, coleslaw,  buttermilk biscuit, mixed fruit salad.

Thursday, February 23 will be Breakfast for lunch consisting of Egg Omelet with cheese, breakfast sausage, breakfast potatoes, bread and jelly, fresh navel orange.

Monday, February 27 will be Pepper Steak with peppers and onions and gravy, parsley noodles, baby carrots, wheat bread, birthday cake.

Tuesday, February 28 will be Beef Stew, mixed greens with tomato, carrots, cabbage, and dressing, applesauce.

Call the center at 484-3020 to sign up for the lunches at least two days in advance of when you want to eat as no extra food is sent to the centers.

Smoke Detectors

Any Tidioute resident who would like a smoke detector for their home can stop at the firehall on Sunday mornings  9 to 12 and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m.  or  call the department at 484-3555 and leave a message for a member to get back to you.

These smoke detectors were donated by the Tidioute Lions Club for those who need them.

The fire department and the Lions Club partnered together t o supply the community with free smoke detectors.

Second Harvest

Second Harvest Produce Express food distribution for Tidioute will be Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Tidioute Firehall.

Second Harvest is an equal opportunity provider.

Food is distributed on a first come first serve basis and is for Warren County residents in need of food assistance.

Bring a couple of boxes or laundry baskets to carry you food items in as boxes are limited.

Soup Sales

Chapel at Tidioute Creek Church will host a Soup-er Soup Sales at the Firehall on Sunday, February 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  for a donation at the door.

Servings are in 20 ounce cups with lids for those that wish to take their soup home for later.

Church services for Chapel at Tidioute Creek will be at 10 a.m. at their new location at the firehall.

Bingo Games

Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament committee members will be hosting Bingo Games at Buccardo’s Restaurant in the banquet room on Sunday, February 5 at 1 p.m. the doors open at 12 p.m. Games at 1 p.m.

Door prizes will be drawn after intermission.

Blood Drive

Tidioute Community Charter School will hold a blood drive on Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Tidioute Firehall from 12:30 to 6 p.m.

Individuals who at least the age of 17 , weigh at least 110 pounds and in generally good health can donate blood.

Donors are reminded to drink plenty of liquid and eat a light meal prior to donating blood.

Craft Show

There will be a Craft Show at Buccardo’s Restaurant Banquet Room on Saturday, February 11 from 9 a.m. to  2 p.m.

There will be handmade jewelry, Valentine’s Day gifts, and Vinyl designs just to name a few of the items.

So get out of the house and come down to see what everyone is offering.  Great stop to grab a last minute Valentine’s Day gift or to spoil yourself a little bit.

Valentine’s Dance

Servicemen’s Home Corp would like you to save the date of Saturday, February 11 for a great evening at the VFW Post.

There will be a Pot Luck Dinner from 6 to 7 p.m. please sign up in advance. And there is a dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.   with music provided by the band “Joy Ride.”

VFW Post 8803 will hold a meeting at 9 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12.

Servicemen’s Home Corp

Members of the Servicemen’s Home Corp will have their meeting on Sunday, February 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Sons of Am Legion

Members of the Sons of the American Legion will have their monthly meeting on Sunday, February 12 at 10 a.m.

All Members are asked to be there.  Your support is greatly needed.

Little Caesars’s Pizza Kits

The PTO at Tidioute Community Charter School is asking the students to sell Little Caesars’s Pizza Kits for their end of year fieldtrips and programming for this spring.

Prices are on the order form. The school makes $5/$6 profit on each item depending on the item sold.

Orders and money are due back to school on Monday, February 13 and order pick up will be on Wednesday, February 22 from 3 to  5 p.m.

If you have any questions on these items please call the school at 484-3550 Ext 102.

Make sure your child’s name is on the order form and the money is in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on it when you return the orders to the school.

Chili Cook-off

The Annual Chili Cook at Tippy Canoe will be Sunday, February 26 at 1 p.m.

Anyone wishing to enter should contact the Tippy at  814-484-7341.

VFW/VFW Aux  Events

VFW Post  8803 and their Auxiliary will have a Chili Cook Off on Saturday, March 4 along with a Pie Bake off and the Auxiliary will host a Chinese Auction/ Basket Raffle.

The Chinese Auction will begin immediately after the Chili Cook Off winners are announced.

Auxiliary members are accepting items for this Chinese Auction.

There next meeting will be Saturday, February 25 at 9:30 a.m.

Mock Interviews at TCCS

On Tuesday, January 17 the senior class and junior class taking Career and Financial Planning participated in a Mock Interview.          

Ten community members with varying career backgrounds volunteered their time to interview the students.

Students made a resume, cover letter, practiced proper body language and eye contact, and dressed professionally.

This was a wonderful experience for our students and Mrs. Robinson, Career and Financial Planning teacher said, she was looking forward to  doing it again next year.

VITA Site Taxes

Tidioute Senior Center located in the community room at Tidioute Towers, will have a VITA Tax Volunteer there to do your income taxes starting February 16,  from 9a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays only with Gregg Burkett.

This is a free program for those that need the help.

Please bring the following information with you: Last year’s tax return, photo ID, social security cards for everyone on the return, income statements, and if you want to itemize you will need to bring all the receipts  and information for Medical bills, and medical insurance premiums, charitable contribution receipts, property tax receipts, and mortgage statement from bank.  IF filing a joint return both people need to be present at the appointment.

The volunteer will be able to  prepare your State, Federal and local, property & rent rebate.

The income limit to be eligible to receive this free tax service is $65,000 for a joint return.

Pushing Up The Sky

Mrs. Schmidt’s third grade class read the play, “Pushing Up The Sky” a Native American legend by Joseph Bruchac.

The play helps students understand how by working together you can accomplish seemingly impossible tasks.

The student’s assignment was to create a mask from one of the characters of the play.

Jocelyn Heber went above  and beyond the task and created a beautiful paper Mache mask of a coyote.

March Madness Raffle

Members of the Elzie E. Lynch American Legion Post 0334 is having a March Madness Raffle.

First Place prize is a 55 inch Vizio 4k Ultra HD TV and Second Place prize is a 50 inch Vizio 4k Ultra HD TV.

Drawing will be on March 11 and tickets are $5 each.  Only  500 tickets are being sold.

Henry Golden Boy

Servicemen’s Home Corp of Tidioute is raffling off a Henry Golden Boy 22 LR

Tickets are only $2 each and the drawing will be March 20, 2017.  Winner need not be present to win.

Basketball Tournament

Tidioute Community Charter School Spanish Club will be hosting a Basketball Tournament to raise funds for their 2018  Spain Trip.

This tournament will be on Friday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m.

The first game will be Alumni vs. Staff Members; and the second game will be the high school Boys vs. the high school Girls.       

The winners of game one and game two will take on each other in a free throw competition.

There will be food and drink available for purchase, hoop shoot contests, and a 50/50 raffle.

Come out and support our school staff, alumni, players and the Spanish Club.

Donations of pop, water, Gatorade, hot dogs, buns, condiments and individual sized bags of chips are being accepted.

Wild Game Feast

The 14th Annual Wild Game Feast was held at Tippy Canoe on Sunday, January 29 at 1 p.m.

Wild Game included: Roast Goose, Moose Chili, Moose Stroganoff, Moose BBQ, Bear, Wild Boar, Wild Turkey, Elk, Venison, Baked Red Salmon, Walleye, Perch, and Salmon nuggets.

All the game meat was donated for the Feast and there was no charge for sampling.

A collection was taken up for the local Salvation Army Unit.

Health Fair      

The 22nd Annual Tidioute Health Fair will be held on Saturday, March 25 from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Tidioute Firehall.

There will be Comprehensive Blood Testing, Informational  and Interactive Displays, Free Screenings such as Body Fat Analysis, blood Pressure, Height, Weight, BMI, Diabetic Foot Evaluations, glaucoma Screenings and Pulse OX.

The Comprehensive Blood Testing includes testing for Heart Disease, Kidney Disease, Diabetes, Thyroid Function, Anemia,  and Liver Disease.

Cost for the blood work is $40 per person which will include a light breakfast.  Men have the option of a prostate cancer testing for an additional $17. And the A1C testing, which shows blood glucose over a 2-3 month period, can be taken for $10.

Blood draws are being done by Warren General Hospital lab employees.

Ark Encounter/Creation Museum

The Voyage Begins on June 19, 2017 from Tidioute, PA  and  continues to Grant County, Kentucky and returns to Tidioute on June 20.

The bus will pick everyone up at the Tidioute Presbyterian Church and you will receive a one night’s lodging, hot breakfast, admission to Ark Encounter, admission to Creation Museum, Dinner, Tour Director, and some shopping (if time permits).

Rates are Single: $359; Double: $309; Triple: $295 and Quad: $ 289.

Deposits of $100 are due by March 1, 2017 and the balance is due March 1, 2017

Need a Ramp/Steps

Tidioute Lions Club is willing to build a Ramp or new steps for those who need them and cannot afford to build them.  The members of the Tidioute Lions Club will do  the labor for you.

Recycling Program

The Tidioute Lions Club has discontinued the collection of Newspapers at the recycling center.

They do however still collect Glass, Plastic both  #1 and #2, Aluminum, and cardboard.

If you are interested in joining the Lions club contact Carmen Fedele at 730-9377. The meetings are the third Wednesday of every month.

TCCS Schedule

February 6 no school, snow day.  February 8 Board Meeting at  7:30 p.m.  February 9 will be the Blood Drive at the firehall 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the PTO will meet at  6 p.m.  February 17 will be  the school dance and February 20 no school-professional development.

Soldiers and Sailors Collection

VFW Post 8803 is collecting new t-shirts to wear daily sizes XL and up (with designs on them), socks, underwear, Deodorant and art supplies for the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Erie, PA

Items can be dropped off at the VFW Post Home  from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Saturday.
