Hazel Ord, seated next to her great-great-grandson, is surrounded with family members for her 103rd birthday. Back row is Barb McDonald, great-granddaughter; Wayne Carter, grandson;  and Hazel's daughter Barb Downey. Wayne is holding great-great-granddaughter. The party was at the Tidioute Senior Center on Thursday.  Youngsters were greeted by Santa on Saturday at the Tidioute Library.  Pictures were taken of those who requested them. Jadyn Bynum, son of Jamie Molek won the extra large Santa Sleigh made of candy that was raffled at the Craft Show at Buccardo's Restaurant on Saturday. The sleigh was made by Linda Scott.

Senior Center Menu

Thursday, Dec. 8 will be Turkey and Swiss sandwiches with lettuce and tomato, Cheesy Broccoli Soup, wheat bread, fresh seasonal fruit.

Monday, Dec.12 will be Ham and Scalloped Potatoes, Braised Cabbage, green beans, dinner roll and strawberry ice cream.

Tuesday, Dec. 13 will be Baked Vegetable Lasagna with parmesan cream cheese, mixed greens with tomato, carrots, onions and cabbage, garlic sticks, sliced apples with oatmeal topping.

Thursday, Dec. 15 will be the Christmas Lunch of Baked Chicken Breast with gravy, homemade stuffing, whipped potatoes, peas and onion, dinner roll and chocolate fluff.

Monday, Dec. 19 will be Hot Roast Beef Sandwich with gravy, whipped potatoes, peas and carrots, wheat bread and birthday cake.

Tuesday, Dec. 20 will be Spaghetti with meatballs, mixed greens with tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, and cabbage, Italian bread, sliced peaches.

Thursday, Dec. 22 will be Cheeseburgers with lettuce, and tomato, oven brown potatoes, coleslaw, wheat sandwich roll, fresh seasonal fruit.

Monday, Dec. 26 closed for Christmas holiday.

Tuesday, Dec. 27 will be Sweet Sausage with peppers and onion,  sausage roll, redskin potatoes, green beans, chocolate ice cream.

Thursday, Dec. 29 will be Sloppy Joe sandwich, wheat sandwich roll, baked potato soup, pineapple tidbits.

Call the center 484- 3020 at least two days in advance  to sign up for lunch. The center is  located at 174 Main St., in the Community Room of Tidioute Towers. Open to those who wish to have lunch with friends or would just love to have a hot meal.  Cost is a suggested donation of $4 for those under the age of 60 and a donation of $3 for those age 60 and older.  This in only a suggested donation.

Am Legion Auxiliary

Members of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit of Post 334 will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m.

Members are asked to bring in their raffle tickets and money for the Christmas Cash Raffle. The winner will be drawn at this meeting.

Also, they will be having their Christmas party. Bring a snack to share and a beverage of your choice.  In lieu of a gift exchange, contribute a donation of $5 towards purchasing gifts for the Angel Tree program.

Reminder: dues for 2016-2017 are due by Dec.31 and can be paid at the meeting.

Winter Picnic

Tidioute Presbyterian Church will be holding a Mission and Maintenance Winter Picnic at the church on Friday, Dec. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m.

This is a public donation dinner, “Winter Picnic”.

The menu consists of Sloppy Joes and buns, Macaroni Salad, Baked Beans, pickles, beverages and dessert.

Cost is a donation and the proceeds will be used for congregation and community needs, as well as church maintenance.

All are welcome.

Breakfast Meeting

The Men’s Breakfast meeting will be held on  Sunday, Dec. 11 at 8 a.m.

Senior Center Activities

Those attending the Tidioute Senior Center were treated to an informative program on Identity Theft and Credit Rights.  Other related issues include Health related theft, Charitable Giving-know your charity, Telemarketing, House related issues,  Memberships, Power of Attorney, Automakers, Trips-winnings, Debit Collections, Deceptive Sales- practices and contracts, product safety and recalls, Spotting a Scam, and Warranties and Guarantees.

One good point to remember is to document all your important calls and if you did not call the particular agency that is calling chances are it is a scam.

There are Lemon Law protections on  products as well.

Senior Center Program

On Dec.12, Karen Atkin of Warren General Hospital will be at the center. And on Jan. 23 Tim Juliano will be there to discuss sleep.

New Year’s Celebration

Those members of the VFW Post 8803 who would like to celebrate the New Year’s Eve with friends at the club can now sign up at the bar for the celebrations.

Treasures For Children

The Treasures For Children program is under way and the tags are on the tree at Northwest Bank in Tidioute.

If you would like to shop for the children of Tidioute, stop at the bank and pick up a tag from the tree, let Jennifer at the bank know which tag/tags you have, or any of the tellers.

Bring your unwrapped gifts back to the bank by Dec. 14 for Christmas delivery.

United Fund

There is still time to make your donations to the United Fund Campaign of Warren County.

Funds from the United Way help organizations in Tidioute as well as Warren. Organizations in Tidioute that benefit include Salvation Army, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Hospice,  and 4-H groups.

Apology

Members of the Presbyterian Women’s Association would like to apologize  for the misunderstanding about the Hot Dog Sales that were to take place on Saturday, Dec. 3.

Due to other events at the church on that same day the women had to cancel the Hot Dog sales.

They are sorry for any inconvenience.

Benefit For LeMaster

There will be a benefit for Bill LeMaster at the Tidioute Pub on Saturday, Dec. 10 form 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Bill’s wife, Kimberly, unexpectedly passed away  and this benefit will help with funeral costs.

A 50/50 and Chinese Auction will be held and appetizers, food and drink specials will be available.

If anyone would care to donate anything towards this benefit, you may call the Pub at 484-3900.

Blood Drive

Tidioute Community Charter School Red Cross volunteers will be hosting a Blood Drive on Thursday, Dec. 15 at the Tidioute Firehall from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

All blood types are needed.

Donors should be sure to eat prior to giving blood and drink plenty of liquids to help replenish their blood.

The American Legion, Home Association of Elzie E Lynch Post 334 has announced the winners of their Cash Raffle.

$500 winner was Chuck Barton of Tidioute, $250 winner was Mike Heenan of Tidioute and the other $250 winner was Chad McLaughlin of Tidioute.

Bed Coverlet Raffle

St John Women’s Guild will draw the winning ticket for the Hand-Crocheted Queen Size Bed Coverlet-Cream colored on Sunday, Dec. 18 after the 11 a.m. Mass.

Tickets are still on sale until then for $1 each and a second-place prize of $50 cash will also be drawn at that time.

Candlelight Services

There will be Candlelight Services at the Swedish Union Church on Swede Road on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m.

All are welcome to attend and the special treat of oranges and candy will be given out following the services.
