The Greatest

Generation

Sugar Grove AMVETS Post 50 recently recognized the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941. In paying respect to our WW II veterans, the greatest generation, the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary hosted a dinner for some of these great veterans. The veterans were presented red, white and blue lap robes. The community thanks them for their service to our country.

The veterans in attendance were Walter Langford, Henry Stec, Ted Faust, Christy Nelson and Frank Coffaro. Missing from the event were Sam Diglioriao and Morton Williams.

The AMVETS Post 50 officers who were on hand to recognize the veterans were Jeff VanArsdale, Jim Hannon, Mandy Hitchcock, John VanDewark and Post Commander Travis Hitchcock.

Rummage Sale

Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church is having a Rummage/Bake/Food Sale on Dec. 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be lots of rummage, miscellaneous stuff, baked goods, food – hot dogs, sloppy joes and soups. Come on down and see everything we have and help support our little valley church.

Annual Sugar Grove

Christmas Walk

The 7th Annual Sugar Grove Christmas Walk is happening tonight beginning  at 5 p.m. Sugar Grove businesses and groups are coming together again this year to make a memorable evening for children of all ages. Flyers titled, “It’s a Sugar Grove Christmas” are located in various business throughout town with maps of events happening through out the town for the event.

Visitors will see all the decorated and living windows, take part in the merchant drawings and giveaways, enjoy music of the season, see art exhibits, live animals and more. Dress warm and walk through the beautifully decorated town and visit the merchants through the borough for a variety of Christmas fun and activities. Live music for the evening will be in various places throughout the town.

Santa will be arriving on fire truck with the SGVFD in the Sugar Grove Park at 5 p.m.so be there with your list for Santa all ready to go. Our AMVETS Post 50 will also have costumed characters in the park and throughout town to visit with you. The AMVETS Hot Dog stand will be operating in the park for those who want to enjoy a great grilled hot dog. Remember rain, snow, or shine,  plan to be downtown. There is so much happening on every corner. We hope you can join us as Sugar Grove wishes you a very Merry Christmas.

WCSD Schedule

The holiday break will begin on Monday, Dec. 26 and continue through Dec. 30. School will resume on Monday, Jan. 2.

Red Kettle Campaign

The local churches will once again be ringing the bell for the local Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign throughout the holiday season. The kettle will once again be located outside of the Town and Country Food Center.  Each weekend the kettle was manned by volunteers.

The Red Kettle Campaign helps raise donations for those who need it most by providing toys for kids, coats for the homeless, food for the hungry, and countless other programs.

Food pantry

The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church located at 210 Jamestown Street is the host site for the northern part of Warren County for this program. Second Harvest is the major supplier of food to charitable agencies throughout Northwestern Pennsylvania. They obtain products from the organization’s warehouse and distribute them to individuals and families facing hard times in 11 counties.

The next Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry will be held on Saturday, Dec.17 with the opening at 8:30 a.m.
