VITA tax volunteers will accept property tax and rent rebates until May 10.

Intergenerational cooking

The next intergenerational cooking class will be offered on May 16 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a recipe and those provided will be pulled at random to select the next event’s dish. Reservations are required by calling (814) 723-4180.

Social Media 101

The Care Council and Experience Inc. will be holding a “Social Media 101” program on Thursday, May 9 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Allen McGill with the Attorney General’s Office of Public Engagement will speak on issues and concerns regarding what children and teens are learning regarding how social media influences them. The program will be held at the old Bridges building, 905 Fourth Ave.

Culinary Kidz

The Culinary Kids program, a five-week program that integrates kids with seniors attending the Allegheny Community Center, will run in two sessions throughout the summer. The program is free. Kids aged 8-12 will cook with seniors and exchange recipes while learning kitchen safety and meal preparation. At the end of the program, a dinner will be served by the kids to parents, grandparents and seniors. There are two sessions – June 17 through July 15 and July 22 through August 19. Classes will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call (814) 723-4180 to reserve a spot.

Out and About

The next “Out and About” dinner bus trip will be held on May 23 at 5 p.m. This event will go to Cabin in the Pines. Call (814) 723-4180 to reserve a spot.

Memory Care

In conjunction with Experience, Inc. and the Rouse, the Allegheny Community Center is starting a Memory Care Cafe Kick Off program that provides the opportunity for persons living with dementia and their loved ones to gather for friendship, fun, creativity and connections. Dementia practitioners from the Rouse will be on hand to do an activity with the persons living with dementia while the ACC provides some creative time for caregivers. The next session is May 9 from noon to 2 p.m. and will be offered the second Thursday of each month. Call the ACC to sign up by May 2.

Painting Classes

A watercolor class is offered on Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. and an acrylic class is offered from 10 a.m. to noon each week.

Safe driving course

A “Seniors for Safe Driving” course will be offered on May 30 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the ACC. The PennDOT approved course for drivers 55+ gives participants the ability to secure a five percent reduction on auto insurance premiums. Cost is $17 and those interested can call the ACC or Seniors for Safe Driving at (800) 559-4880.

Closure

All Warren and Forest county senior centers will be closed on May 27 for Memorial Day.
