Landscape
program offered
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service is offering a free, public program called Simplifying the Landscape presented by our Artist-in-Residence, Paul Seymour on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Forest Headquarters (Supervisor’s Office) located in North Warren.
Paul Seymour is the Allegheny National Forest’s summer Artist-in-Residence. He is a Pittsburgh-based painter and retired music teacher. “When an artist paints a landscape, the actual visual image is too complex, varied, and visually chaotic to create a pleasing painting. As a result, before the artist begins the painting process, they must simplify the landscape into shapes and values to create a pleasing representation,” says artist Paul Seymour. “In this session, I will demonstrate how to choose, edit and clarify the complex landscape, inspired by scenes from public lands, to create a convincing painting.”
Participants should meet in the lobby of the Forest Headquarters (Supervisor’s Office), located at 4 Farm Colony Drive, Warren. Participants are encouraged to engage with the artist in this interactive program, which will conclude with an oil painting demonstration and an art drawing giveaway.
