Distribution event set for Feb. 24

A Second Harvest Food Bank Military Share distribution event is set for 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the Penelec building, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave. W., Warren. “The Military Share program of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania delivers fresh, nutritious foods to families with at least one member who has served or is serving in the armed forces or National Guard,” according to a Second Harvest release. Questions about the free program, including qualifications, may be directed to the Second Harvest Helpline at (814) 459-3663 ext. 117. The distribution will be handled on a first come, first served basis. “In northwest Pennsylvania, one in four households receiving food assistance has at least one household member who has served in the military or is serving in the military,” according to Second Harvest.

Blood drive to be held Feb. 21

Community Blood Bank of Northwestern Pennsylvania and Western New York will hold a blood drive from noon to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Holy Redeemer Church in Warren. “Donating blood is a free, impactful way to give back to your community — in less than one hour,” Community Relations Specialist Erika DePalma said. “The need for blood never stops and it cannot be manufactured. We ask that all healthy and eligible members of the community donate blood as soon as possible.” All types are needed, especially type O, she said. Appointments are not required, but are encouraged, and may be made by calling (814) 456-4206.
