Chicken BBQ to be held Sunday

The Lander Volunteer Fire Department will hold a drive-through chicken barbecue Sunday beginning at noon. The cost is $12 for a full dinner or $8 for a half chicken or children’s meal. The chicken is cooked over charcoal fire with the department’s signature basting sauce. Sides include potato salad, apple sauce, roll and dessert.

Dinner Club gathers Thursday

The Newton Dinner Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Station 61 formerly Richard’s Restaurant.

Chronic Wasting Disease open house Wednesday

There will be a Chronic Wasting Disease open house hosted by the Pennsylvania Game Commission from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Russell Volunteer Fire Hall, 66 Perrigo Lane, Russell. The informational session will focus on providing information to the public about CWD and the status of Disease Management Area 5 in northern Warren County. “The open house format will provide an opportunity for those in attendance to learn more about this disease,” Wildlife Conservation Officer Supervisor Jason Amory said. “Attendees will be encouraged to interact with regional staff and wildlife biologist in small breakout sessions to address questions they have.” Further information about CWD is available by visiting https://bit.ly/3w2sShq

Greenhouse give back

The volunteers from the Allegheny Greenhouse on the Warren State Hospital grounds have donated funds received from their work to several community organizations including the, State Hospital Indigent Patient Fund $2,000; Allegheny Community Center toward the rental fee for the senior recreational room, $1,000; Kiwanis Club, $1,000; Russell United Methodist toward their food pantry and community fund, $1,000; Chief Cornplanter Council, Boy Scouts of America, $1,000. The Greenhouse volunteers would like to thank the State Hospital for allowing them the use of the Greenhouse, Experience, Inc Area Agency on Aging for supporting them, and all of you folks who are buying all those plants, herbs, and vegetables.

Car show to be held

The Warren Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows is holding a Car Show Saturday, June 4. The show is being held at the Ed Shults Dodge used car lot and the Warren Mall Lot. Show hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All Classic cars, trucks, street rods, sports cars, tuners and other specialty vehicles are invited. Trophies will be awarded. There will be 50/50 raffles and door prize drawings. Hot dogs and sausage will be available at the Lions Weenie Wagon and BSA Troop 8 will be selling pulled pork and coleslaw. Drinks and fresh popcorn will also be available. Along with music there will be other activities available. There is a $10 entrance fee per car.

Class to meet

The Eisenhower Class of 1973 will be meeting for breakfast at The Bucket Cafe on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

Grange meets

The Warren-Forest Pomona Grange recently met with reports received concerning the Pa. State Grange Youth/Junior get together held at Hookstown Grange in Beaver County, groups working for the fair and helping with road clean up of Route 337, minor repairs to the Pomona building and a few changes concerning the concession during the Warren County Fair. Pomona will meet again Aug. 27 at 9 a.m with election of officers for two-year terms.

Bridge results

Sherra Babcock and Pat Fincher placed first on Monday evening at YMCA while Sally Steele and Laurie Curren finished in second. Sherry Griffiths came in first Tuesday afternoon at the Allegheny Community Center and Bill Massa was second. Sally Steele and Rita Mancuso were first and second Thursday afternoon at the Woman’s Club.
